Summer Camp!!! (OOC and what not)

Ah Summer. A time when the sun shines down from the skies warming the land, chasing the rains of spring away. It’s a time of freedom. School’s out and the children are enjoying the three months before they have to go back to school. For them though the summer signals an end to an era. People finishing high school enjoy their last few months of freedom and innocence before being thrust into the real world of college or work. It certainly is a time for fun and enjoyment, for both children and adults. And one of the staples of summer is ingeniously designed so both adults and kids can have fun during the summer. The summer camp. It’s a place where adults can send their kids to be rid of them for a few months and a place where kids can be free from their parents to enjoy the great outdoors; swimming, riding, canoeing, hiking, awkward romantic moments, etc.

Camp Okeananbee (Camp OK) is your typical summer camp. Located in Northern Pennsylvania it is nestled in a peaceful valley, surrounded by good mountain trails for hiking and a small slow moving river, Camp OK was traditionally a male only camp, but finally went co-ed in the middle of the 80s, much to the celebration of the teenage boys who were sent there. In the last ten years they raised the maximum age of campers to 19, to allow for high schoolers to enjoy one last hurrah after their senior year before heading off to college. It boasts an archery range, a nice placid lake for swimming, a stable of horses that campers can take out on the trails around camp. The typical attendance each year is around 200 people, separated in Boys and Girls cabins, ten campers per cabin and one counselor per cabin.

So yeah, this is basically just a Summer Camp thread, looking for some people who want to be campers, staff, or whatever, just a little light hearted thread to look back at something I only got to experience once in my life, the summer camp. So yeah, post your bios and what not here and I’ll make some final cast decisions, or this’ll just tank like my other threads and I’ll crawl back inside my bottle!!! /me wails pathetically

Julia grew up on her parents estate outside Dallas, Texas. She was the son her father never had, having 3 older sisters. He taught her everything about running the ranch, rounding up and branding the cattle, tending the horses, etc. He also taught her to fish and hunt, but their love was archery.

At 38 years old, Julia had had many lovers, but never a serious relationship. Everytime she saw a man more than a handful of times, her father found a way to scare them off. The most recent occurance, when he walked into the guest house where she lived, carrying his hunting riffle and pointing it at the naked young man, was the final straw. She packed her bags, emptied her trust fund, and moved to Pennsylvania.

One morning, while scanning the local newspaper and drinking her coffee, she saw a want-ad for Camp Okeanonbee......"Archery instructor needed........"

David played football professionally for Queens Park Rangers for two years before being transferred to Everton for 4 million pounds, he played five years with this Premiership side winning an F.a Cup winners medal before injury ended his career.

David is a happy go lucky guy always up for a laugh and loves football(soccer). He's got a footballers built, powerful legs toned body.

He's not doing this job for the money (he is a multi millionaire) he's doing it for the experience and to give something back to football.

Mich had never been to a summer camp before. It always seemed like a rich-kid thing, or something for parents who didn't want to deal with this kids for the summer. Still, her friends insisted they give it a try. It was cheaper than goint to Florida for a last summer fling... and her best friend insisted that Camp OK had some really hot instructors. She had to laugh at that.

Bio: Alex frequented other summer camps as a patron. She enjoyed the tasks she didn't get to do else where such as repealing, archery, or even something as simple as hiking. She hadn't lived in this town for very long, only 4 years, so she was surprised when a camp she never had been to was willing to hire her. Her first year when she was 17 she had been put in the nature center where she took care of the lizards, snakes, and other animals they kept in terrariums on display. She wasn't particularly fond of this job, and was more then happy when they made her the archery dissector the next year. She held that position again the fallowing year, but became tired of the younger campers who could barely listen how to shoot, and were much worse when they actually shot. This year she has been hired to her ideal position Director of High Adventure. She would instruct repealing and rock climbing, lead the hikes, and she had the freedom to switch up her program as she and the campers wanted. The best part how ever had to be only the 16, 17, 18, and 19 year olds could sign up; and that means no more kids who can't listen.

Bio: Not knowing much about the camp life she decided to check it out at the behest of her younger brother who was also being sent to camp that year. With a pact between them not to mess with each other's peers or reveal their family relationship; they made seperate traveling arrangements and the rest is history. Nikki hopes to make many friends and a lasting summer memory to take with her into her adult lifestyle upon her return home.

He also knows all the routines, all the squeaky boards, all the shadiest routes to sneak around all through the night. He was going to make damn sure his buddies never get caught on their way to make out with the girls.

Blest didn't really want to come to camp this year. He'd been a few times when he was in his preteens and had managed to avoid it by travelling during the summer with various teen groups in highschool. Now though he was out of school and had nothing to do before college. His father had given him an ultimatium, he could come to Camp OK or he could get out and find a summer job. The choice wasn't too hard. He got on the bus, sighing heavily, wishing he didn't have to be here, but knowing it was still probably better than pumping gas or washing restrooms at the movie theater for a summer.

Henry had worked at the camp for the better part of two and a half decade. A counselor at age 20 he quickly rose through the leadership positions, the old director taking him under his wing and grooming him to take his position when he retired. Henry had always had a special connection with the camp. It was where he spent his summers as a child and he was determined to make it just as wonderful for the new generation of campers as it was for him.

i never could figure a way to work my boy into the story. Anyway, I think the character for this one will be more fun to play. i will, however, understand if things are getting a bit crowded. btw, too late to get back on the pirates bandwagon? i'm ready to hit the high seas, get outta port.

As for the pirate thread, there's still more than enough time. Everyone's still in port, you could easily just have your guy pop up wherever.

Leanne was born and raised in BC, Canada with her struggling single mother. Having been offered a great job in Pennsylvania, Leanne was forced to move during her graduation year, leaving her friends behind and starting off completely anew. Her last year of high school was a horrible experience as she had trouble adapting to the new environment, and fitting in with the social life around her . Her mother, seeing her daughters sudden lapse into solitary, scrounged up the money to send Leanne off to Camp OK, hoping to see some sort of rise in spirits from her when she returned. Leanne has learned to keep to herself throughout the past year, although she yearns for some companionship, so she agreed to go to camp for the summer...

Ha, well that is embarrassing. Guess I was thinking about camping and not paying enough attention to the first post.

All right so the cabins do activities together, if so how many cabins do an event at a time?

Also the staff in a cabin, is that only for a night time chaperon or is that staff member doing all the events with the campers?

I'm not sure wow I'm going to run it yet, but I will definately let you know when I figure out the order for things.

Probably will be a lot of cabin mixing on activities, and the activities will be overseen by the counselors, but there will still be free time for the campers to interact and what not.
