My publisher (PhazE) has created a forum (called the Starlight Lounge). Each contracted author has a niche on the forum through which they can interact with readers, do promos, post excerpts, etc.

It's all very new and not yet up to speed ... even for PhazE authors who've works in print already.

I've been working on my niche and would like some input/ideas of things to include.

Registration is required for most of the forum areas (because of the adult content), but once you register, you'll be able to see the author niche area. I'm Alessia Brio.

I've created a thread to promote Coming Together, a guestbook, and a couple other threads ... but I'm still trying to decide how to make the best use of this in terms of self promotion.

Help?

Put an H after the title. :D
Do you know what the look like?

Imp, maybe you could start a thread about personal fantasies and their interests in the literary inclusion of them? I would make a long bio piece and introduce yourself (without intricate detail) to your readers. Let them know your quirks and what brought you to writing. Make yourself appear normal (though WE all know you aren't:kiss:) and it will attach your readers to you more. I know I am always interested in finding things out about the authors I read. It's like a tabloid; Everyone wants to feel a touch of the celebrity. I would also start an Alessia Brio Q7A thread so your readers can ask what they would like to and you can respond. A critique thread may be a good idea and also a review thread. Other than that, wait it out, eventually your readers will come. Success isn't an overnight thing and believe me, you are talented so they will come.

I hope these ideas made sense.

Depends on what you've got available to readers, and what things they often ask you? Or other PhazE authors. Perhaps a quick bio, offering to let people ask further questions, or an offer of basic feedback on your work. Without more info, it's hard to know for sure. Of course, I guess I could have gotten off my lazy ass and looked up your part of the site (or stayed on it, rather).

Thanks, Dar~

I really like the Q&A idea. The main board has a place already for reviews, but I could easily link to it (once I have some reviews to link to). The bio is done ... but I'm not sure I'd call it "long." Hmmm ...

I appreciate the insight.

What's got into Dar?
She's come out with a sensible idea!
Just joking Dar.

She speaks truth.

Thanks, Q_C

Right now, I've nothing published. This is all hype until the book is actually released (later this year) ... but they want authors to be visible and helping to get folks excited about what's (ahem) coming.

I appreciate your input.

Babe, you are a brilliant author, have no worries.

Thanks. It's not the writing that worries me -- it's the self promotion. I've never had to do it before, and I'm just not sure how to do so effectively.

From my short time as part of the PhazE family (we get advance copies of all publications to read/review), I can tell you that the talent here in the AH is definitely on par with what's being contracted for eBooks and print. I encourage EVERYONE interested in being published to submit their work to the publisher of their choice.

Thank you, yui, for registering with the forums. When you're being published and need a show of support, I'll be sure to do the same for you. :rose:

People keep saying that to me.
I'm going to have to change.

BUMP. Pretty please?

I will take a gander. What kind of feedback are you looking for? I was not clear on this in your first post. :)

Thanks, Charley. :rose:

I want to make the best use of the (free!) space for the promotion of my work. I'm not at all used to "selling myself" *cough* I can host contests there ... interact with readers ... hype the release with excerpts, etc. But if it gets too overwhelming or too busy, I might be doing more harm than good.

I have no marketing skills whatsoever ... and I need some now.

Plus, a good showing in terms of traffic on my niche will demonstrate to the publisher that I'm pulling my weight ... and am thus a good investment (for future contracts).

vella -- MWAH! Thanks for posting.

Thanks to those who registered & signed my Guestbook over at the Starlight Lounge. MUCH appreciated!

Would love to have more. (It makes me look popular, y'know? *grin*)

Imp, I haven't had a look at the site yet, but off the top of my head --could you post a thread listing your stories and what "category" or fetish they cover? That way if someone is looking for a particular kink, they'll know precisely where to go to get it.

Small blurbs of each story could also be helpful, like the blurbs found on the backs of novels.

I'm not sure this is quite what you needed by way of self-promotion. Let me think on it some more and see if anything comes up.
