Hi all

Let me start out by saying I have been away for a while due to my depression wosening.

I am looking for ideas for Valentines Day gifts for Hubby. I was thinking of getting toys for us. I am going to be buying a nice cedar chest to put them all in.

My question is what are some good ideas for basics for a Dom to have? I don't want to ask Him as I want it to be a complete surprise.

Sorry to hear about your depression Elimo.

I am sure you will get all kinds of good suggestions here, however it might also help to know a few things to help people make better informed suggestions.

Such as:

Is your hubby sadistic, are you a masochist? Are you both into bondage play? Are you both into various sensation play. Also, what kind of ballpark moneywise are you looking at? Do you plan to spend alot? Or just a little?

I am sure if you provide some additional information like this you will get a better quality response from everyone.

We really don't have much in the ways of toys at all at the moment and I am looking at around spending $200.00

We have been exploring and experimating with bondage and looking to expand our expierences (hope that makes sense lol). We have made the list up of our hard limits which are : beastility, scat, breath play, and being with others

We have been taking our time with this and going slow.

Right now for toys we have one set of cuffs, and a vibrator. yeah I know we have next to nothing that is why I think this will be a good gift for him.

However I have bought toys for us to use or we have bought things together.
(we also went through my existing toy bag and threw away the things he didnt like and did not want to use).

Make sure your husband would be ok about your choosing things, $200 is alot of money if he doesn't like your choices.

Another way would be to look at sites together and get an idea of things he wants to try, then purchase them.

If you are looking for gifts for Him personally you'll want to be careful. What I mean by that is that you'll want to know if it's His 'fit'. For example: A flogger fits wonderfully into the toy box but will it fit His grip? Is it the feel that He wants while using it?

It was mentioned earlier that maybe the two of you look and research for the right item(s). I think that is a perfect suggestion. It will also help you find out more about each other in terms of wants and desires in this relationship.

You should be able to get quite a few of these things for $200. If they aren't perfect- well, how are you going to find that out if you don't try them? It'll help you make better choices next time.

I agree that hubby may have prefrences that is why I decided that any floggers whips etc he will need to pick out himself.

I will be showing him however the sites listed and ask him to make out a wish list for me. That way in the future when I want to get a gift I have a list of likes

Purple sage thank you I will hopefully be goign shoppping tomorrow for his gifts with that list in hand.

Timber Wolf where my brother lives with us unfortunately that is not an option. I will be making reservations at a restaurant for us however. Hopefully he has not made any plans but reservations can be broken if need be.

This is an important day for us as this is the first year we have had the money to spend on each other. Other valentines we would make homemade cards and that is it. However I am making a homemade card for him as well as a coupon book of favors for him.

Any other suggestions will be welcome and appreciated. Am I wrong in thinking of a cedar chest to hold the toys in most of the time I see it refered to as a toy bag?

You could always go to a local shop and buy a gift certificate - that way the surprise is there, and he still gets to pick the items out.

We have all ready got him a book and it is killing me as he has said I am not allowed to read it. That way it is all a surprise for me. I am such an avid reader it is hard at times but I have not even opened it yet. The book is a how to book kinda by a Dom. At least that is what I think it is about from the title.

I like the idea of the gift certificates too. Hmmm. Now I have to think some more. Maybe a combination of it all

A drawer, a bag, a chest, a box, any of that will work to hold toys.

Although it's tempting to just get what you think he would want, I recommend getting a item or two that you would like. What have you two fanaticized about together? That would be a good clue for you when shopping for toys.

Not everyone is into bondage are you both into that? If so a plain clothes line for a dollar at the dollar store might work.

I would highly recommend paraffin candles. I also personally love a yard stick, ping pong paddles and a flogger of any kind.

You really don't need anything that fancy to get started. I do like the idea of a good blindfold. Ours was too cheap and the elastic got so stretched out that it's useless now. We need another. If you or he are into sensory deprivation, some of those inexpensive wax ear plugs might be good.

A pinwheel might be good. I hear they are fun. You can get something like it I'm told for a lot less and made with plastic at a home improvement store in the wall paper section.

If you have your brother living with you, I'd rather spend that money for a night out at a hotel.

I got him the pine chest, scarfs, clothespins, chocolates, emena(sp) kit,ping pong paddle, roses, lotto tickets, blindfold, wooden spoons, rope, cake, taking him out to dinner on the 14 and also making cookies tomorrow.

I also made a homemade card and here was the hard part:
made a coupon book using every letter of the alphabet. They are not all things to do with the bedroom. They range from blowjobs to playing PS2 games.

He does not know about most of it. I must say when I was shopping and he was with me, he did seem happy with what I was picking out. I never heard anything negative.

I hope he likes this, this took a lot of thought and time. I am now impatient for Tuesday, just to see what he thinks.
