Staci was the serious science fair gal in high school, wearing baggy sweaters and ill-fitted horn rim glasses, her hair a choppy mousy dirty blonde.

When she appears as a lifeguard at the local outdoor pool the spring after her freshman year of college, she has blossomed into a Malibu Barbie lookalike...

hmm....
serious science girl suddenly develops the ability and physique to a be life guard after one year of college? I'd have to believe that she did something to be fit during high school.

The part with the girl wearing awkward clothes in high school, and then "transforming" in college is believable though.
