*gasp* p_p_man and I were on the same wavelength!

Although, on opposite sides of the spectrum (whew, the world is revolving on its axis again!)

I was thinking today how much 9/11 HAS altered our reality.

I was in town for a client meeting today and riding the subway. A woman looked down and casually asked if a bag in the aisle belonged to another woman seated just ahead of her.

A resonse of, "No" sent the whole car into a momentary panic as each occupant in that section was polled. When no owner was identified, you could already see people contemplating escape options.

In the end, it was discoverd that it belonged to a woman who had gone to consult a placard posted mid-car, who left the bag innocently.

But before 9/11, I don't think the reaction would have been the same.

It saddens me that things have gone so crazy. A friend of mine was at the airport the other day, filling out a job application. As he was leaving, he saw a gentleman sitting in a car, talking on the phone. The man appeared was dark skinned and wearing a turban. His car had decals on the windows in arabic lettering.

My friend turned around, went inside and reported this guy to security. Pre-September 11, this never would have happened.

I'm all for being safe, but we have to remain human too.

that's appalling racism. An actress in the uk has just been reported in the papers as calling an asian taxi driver 'Osama Bin Laden'. People are so ignorant.
