So I submitted a story that is supposed to start off a new series that I'm working on and I submitted Chapter 1 a few days ago and when I checked back on the status it still said pending so I resubmitted it again and still it just says pending.

Usually I would submit a story and then the next day it would show it was being accepted and then the next day it would be up, but now my story has been saying pending for days and then when I resubmitted it, it does the same thing. Does anyone have any advice on the matter?

The normal turnaround is 2 days from submission to posting, and has been for a while.

If it was sitting in the queue for multiple days, there was probably some sort of a database hiccup. There's behind-the-scenes work going on right now in preparation to launch new stuff, and a couple of other glitches have already been reported, so that's entirely possible.

One thing is for certain. When you did the resubmit, your timer reset to zero, as if you had never submitted it the first time. If nothing went haywire in the second try, the story should be approved two days from when you did that.

If it's not, you'll probably need to bring the matter to Laurel via PM so she can sort it out.

Might be worth making the contact while you're waiting for your day in the queue as well. Laurel may be able to find out what happened the first time, and she'll at least know you have one in the queue waiting so she can make sure it's appearing on her screen.

I have once had a situation where my story took longer than usual (6 days) to be posted. I sent Laurel a very polite PM to ask about it and it turned out that it had not been cued properly (through no fault of mine, or hers; shit happens). 48 - 72 hours seems to be fairly typical between submission and acceptance BUT the weekend may lengthen that, and, well, shit occasionally happens...

Thanks to you both for the helpful advice. I wrote Laurel about other things before, but she never responded back, but I guess I give it another go.

PM her, not email.

Never, ever, resubmit when the story is in the queue, as RR said that starts the timer all over again...the submission goes to the end of the queue.

Also, on your View Submissions page, do NOT click on your story's pending link. Clicking that takes your story back to the end of the queue.

Not really, but clicking on the subsequent Submit link does. But that's beside the point...just leave it alone. If it is longer than a week since you submitted, then PM Laurel about it.

Plus

the "April's Fool" contest submissions will have priority due to deadline.

I was wondering the same thing. I submitted a new chapter on Thursday and it still says 'pending'. usually only takes 2-3 days.

resubmitting your story can slow it way down. I would never resubmit unless it were to make changes in the story after acceptance or rejection

If there is a contest running, any story not for the contest will probably take a little longer, maybe up to a week to post.

I've had times where my stories took long as a week to go 'live.' I never thought much about it, since Lit is a big story site with a large array of authors. Maybe my patience stems from many years of being published, who knows? YMMV.;)

I would be surprised if those times were within the last year. I just don't think that the process is that varied. My current story took three days to post, but for the last year two days has been the norm--and I post a lot. Glitches do naturally happen. On the fourth day, I'd PM Laurel about it, because I just don't think that stories naturally have been straying beyond two/three days for a very long time. I just don't think that the system has that much time variance it in unless the story has dropped in the cracks.
