Submission Dilemma

Have a story ready to submit (under a different log in - long story), and need to know how strictly authors are expected to adhere to the various story categories.

To put it plainly, I have a story wherein all of the "action" winds up essentially being masturbation. However, this not a solo descriptive piece about the act, but rather a lengthy tease between two people resulting in all the aforementioned masturbation.

To put it more plainly: I want to submit the story under "erotic couplings" since it seems to me all couplings need not be physical. But...don't know if it'll be re-catergorized by the admin folks, and don't want the average reader to grumble because they feel that it should be submitted under the lowly "masturbation" category.

A final consideration: don't want a bunch of people who feel they've been duped torpedoing my story by giving it 1's and 2's after all my hard work. Any suggestions?

If you can't decide exactly where to place it, you can always use the catch-all "Romance" category. And don't worry about the readers there, they are most forgiving.

Erotic Couplings is a catch-all.

There is a specific group who will center in on a Masturbation tale.

If you can't decide exactly where to place it, you can always use the catch-all "Romance" category. And don't worry about the readers there, they are most forgiving.

Romance doesn't get all that many readers. Toys and Masturbation probably gets more than E/C.

ETA: If the masturbation is a phone sex kind of thing, with the two people taking turns describing what they are doing, it might fit in E/V.

You need to consider that Lit sometimes puts a story in a different category than you request. If you're really concerned, you can put a small description at the beginning to alert readers to the type of story (a lot of stories that don't contain sex but are submitted in LW or Romance will do that).

Erotic Couplings is really the catch-all. Romance readers want their romance, meaning Romeo-and-Juliet discovering each other, falling in love, maybe some angst or drama or just some sweetness; candle lit dinners and hot oil massages.

This story sounds far too "stroke" for the romance category--and nothing angers romance readers than a stroke story when they wanted romance.

I agree with Sarahh. Put it in Masturbation. Readers have their favorite categories, places which are, if you will, like a part of town with restaurants that serve up their favorite kind of food/read. So you'll get dedicated readers who drop into the Masturbation cat and they'll not only enjoy that kind of story, but also be more likely to give you comments on it, and ask you for more if they really liked it. Just be as clear as you can be in your one-line description on what it's about ("Couple tease each other into mutual pleasure"--something like that).

Erotic Couplings is rather like a fast food restaurant: want a quick stroke story, you go there. But it's not your favorite part of town with your favorite stuff, just a place to sate the hunger.

My vote is for masturbation, as well, FWIW. Marsh and I have one there that has done rather well.
