Nope, I'm not takling about me. No what I'm talking about is those stupid little annoying things that just scream "Duh!"

My cell phone has been annoying me for the last hour with a loud, long, high pitched trill every ten seconds. Why is it doing this? Not because someone is trying to talk to me. No! It is because it's battery is running low.

Usually my wonderful little friend will not burn much battery juice at all, just sitting there idly waiting for someone who wishes to talk to me. Now however it has determined that it's battery is getting low. So what did the darling little tech wonder's designers decide to do in this situation?

"Oh hey!" I can almost here them say to one another. "Let's make it enter a mode which burns up battery power at an amazing rate!"

"Yeah! That's the ticket!" another answers and stupidity is once again raised to a higher bar of excellence.

There are so many examples of this in life, it makes you understand why, in the search for intelligent life all the antennas are pointed away from earth.

Actually, if I'm not paying attention, I'm glad it chirps, screams or whatever to tell me to plug it in...wouldn't want it to be dead when I need it now, would I?

The time went out on mine...and it went dead...and has not come back to life yet.....
That was 5 months ago after my boyfriend bought it for me...a shame, oh well, I'll buy another.
Besides, there's nothing worse then being at a meeting in the Office and all of a sudden hear the Charleston blaring through the leather bag at your feet. Boss Lady didn't like that too much :p

Hmmmmm....your boyfriend sang you the Charleston from a leather bag during a meeting at work? Now that sounds sort of kinky... ;)

A soft infrequent chirp I could understand. This this is going "Trillliiiinng Trillliiiinng Trillliiiiinng" for eighteen seconds every thirty seconds. It is louder than it's assigned ring when you recieve a call and I can't find any way to change the notification.

My charger is back at the house, I don't carry it in my purse. So my choice is to turn it off and really miss those calls or let the alarm run the battery dead.

Hmmm

BTW CoolCucumber, I think I dated your brother, Big, last night :)

Ummmmm........ boyfriend or phone, what, which, what will you buy another of huh?

Gawd, if you know where I could buy a couple of girlfiends........ now there's a thought!

)

Laughs, then ponders about buying a new boyfriend... I was talking about my poor dead little cell phone.....I need to buy another.

Just do what I do. I don't go anywhere so I don't even have a cell phone! :D

(I know, I'm very primative here! :D)

Well, I'm not that primative. I just finished setting up a swimming pool for my kids. Now all I'm hearing is, "Mom, can we PLEASE go swimming now?" :D

The other one I hate with cell phones is the ringing for voice mail.

I've got caller ID on my phone so if it is someone I can talk to later or just don't want to talk to, I don't answer. But as soon as they hang up, if they leave a message, I start getting that same shrill chirp to let me know they left a message. I know how it is and if I thought they were important, I would have answered when they called in the first place!!!!

I think Sweet Cherry has a point. If it weren't for my daughters, I wouldn't even have a phone in my house, I do all my business from the office and the only people who call at night are tele-a-marketers.

You guys are all making me feel really good about my little Nokia. I have none of these annoyances. If the battery is going low, it only indicates this on the screen. If there is voicemail, it is only because someone has called and that ring was already not responded to--no reason to bother me again.

My only gripe is that the ring is not loud enough. I have it set to the most annoying and shrill one I could find and if I have the window down on my truck and the phone face up beside me, I can't hear it. If it is attached to my waistband in line at Astroworld, can't hear it. All my friends know to call my pager instead and I will call them on the cell.

Of course, if I am at work, the phone is very audible. LOL--once I was at work in the O.R. and climbing under the surg table trying to retrieve something when my phone went off and scared me. I whacked my head on the under surface of the table. OW! Everyone else in the room thought it was rather entertaining.

(BTW--cell phone usage is discouraged in the hospital. certain models can interract with certain machine signals-especially in the cardiac floors. The only reason I was carrying mine is because it has a panic button on it and this was when I was dealing with the motherfucker who assaulted me at Christmas. I no longer work there now. Interresting that no one else on my shift works there any longer either. Hhhmmmmm.... There has been a mass exodus.)

I don't have a cell phone, pity me? But I have either a funny or patheitc story to share. You tell me which it is.
I was at a restaurant wiuth a good friend the other day. Three ladies met there. All seemed to be excited about having time to meet each other and talk without the families around. They were all hugging and briinnnnggg.. One answers her call. Soon the other does. The last sat there, with a pathetic look on her face for about 2 minutes, then picked up her phone and called someone to talk about flowers for an aunt.
Anyways. This went on through the whole lunch. I don't think the three of them spoke to each other more then 5 minutes at a time without one or more of them receiving or answering a call. When they did have time to talk it was the "isn't it so wonderful we all took the time to be together." What together? I have had more meaningful conversations with my computer then the three of them did. They continually made the waitress wait and repeat herself over and over as they talked, ordered and ate on the phone. I would have dumped their food in their laps if I was her.
Why? Why go to all that trouble, as it seemed to me, to get together and then ignore each other like that. I swear if any of my frineds did that I would have walked out, leaving them the check.
Is this story funny? Or pathetic? I thought funny at first, but then realized that this is the kind of friendship more and more people are having. Tryig to cram more into the time they have then is possible.
I shake my head in wonder and befuddlement.

I'm also a cellphone owner, but I don't have any ordinary phone, but often when I go out, I don't bring the phone with me, especially not if I'm going out to meet friends. Because when I do that, it's to be with them, and to talk to them, and not some other people who calls me.
