What is the current maximum size for illustrated poetry picture files? The FAQ page says 450 pixels wide and a max size of 40KB, but checking the properties of some recently posted illustrated poems, I find that some are as wide as 550 pixels, and some show a file size of over 50KB.

What are the current upper limits for picture poems?

I have a feeling this may have changed along with the recent forum changes, but I know you can now post a picture in a thread up to 650 pixels wide if you keep the file size to 40k.

Lauren? Neo? You folks know anything about this?

also

I don't know about allowed dimensions, but I do know that when a picture is too wide it messes up the entire thread. I keep mine to 400 pixels wide maximum. Otherwise you have to use the scroll bar to read an entire posting.

Just my 2 cents!

Hi, Ryb!

Hi, Ange!

Ayuh. :D

I'm good. Missin my sweetie who's outta town for a few days, but ok. Started teaching again, which is exhausting but satisfying. I'm gonna try to revive myself from today and write some poetry. ;)

I've always gone by the FAQ's so I assume Ange is right and that it changed with the the rest of the system changes.

FAQ still says 450 is the max width, which I guess I too ignored with one of my latest poems. (Oops) I guess whoever is screening the submissions just lets minor sins slide.

However, the web site design for the story pages allows for up to 500 pixels in width before it affects things like tables and background adjustments. One of yesterday's illustrated batch was 550 pixels wide and, well, it doesn't look neat.

Edit: Which is a shame, cause now that I stopped to read it one more time, I realized it's really a good poem.

How I miss the sound of 'Ayuh'! I hope I can get up there this summer. Just long enough to smell the pines and the salt spray together and hear some ol' lobsterman say 'Ayuh!'

Hi, Ryb!

Hi, Ange!
Hi Boo,
I luv ya too! You must know that Flippy, (Which, for some reason I always want to call "Skippy", is one of my all-time favorite Poems ever posted on Lit.)

On my screen (19") using Win XP Pro, 550+ pix wide fits. Maybe the FAX recommended width limitation is because of different browsers? - What about the file size? - I know 40KB can be exceeded.

Lotsa luv, Da Fish ;)

Hey Boo, come visit me. I may not have lobsters, but I am sure I can find you someone who has crabs! ;) :p

If you want to hear a northern New England accent, go listen to:

I submit illustrated at 450 pixels/40k files and work well with within those limits. For me, the illustrated poetry that is over 450 pixels ends up throwing off the table alignment of the webpage due to the fact I have a screen resolution of 800 by 600 pixels as do alot of other users.

If the limits have indeed increased, I think I would stick with the 450 pixel width, but increase the file size. 40k isn't that much; something I've complained about since my first illustrated poem. Kicking it up to a bigger size means more detail and color, which always makes graphics top notch.

I don't think that your screen width has got anything to do with it. The table holding the content on the pages is at a fixed width anyway. If I read the source code right, the max width for content before it affects the design is 525. I might have missed a digit somewhere though.

That's good advice perfesser. :)

I find that the image quality at 40k is not very good, depending on the photo. I'm still not sure how large the file can be though if I keep the width at 450 pixels. Does anyone know?

Lauren knows, I bet. Where is that chica?

Oh, that depends on so many things. If it's 540 pixels wide and 450000000 pixels high, it gets pretty big. ;)

haha I have no idea, but I do know minsue's sig line is throwing off the tables in her post only, so it could just be just me—although I did want to blame it on my old gateway monitor to have an excuse to get a new one.

Liar is correct. Anything above 525 pixels starts stretching the layout table, and your screens' resolutions have absolutely nothing to do with it.

Anything above 500 pixels looks bad on the layout, even if it doesn't stretch the table. 450 pixels is the maximum wide allowed, and it's also the one that works the best for Lit's layout.

There are several poems with images that exceed the allowed limit, but that's probably because Laurel is having a very busy time and can't be bothered to resample every file she receives.

Same thing goes for the Kb size, by the way. For most images, 40Kb is more than enough. You only need to find a program with a decent compression algorithm. IrfanView, for example, produces JPEGs of similar quality to Adobe Photoshop's that take only a fraction of the size.

Really? Sorry about that! No one ever told me and it works fine on mine. *blush*

What skin do you use? I've noticed that makes a big difference. A lot of people's locations throw off the tables for the skin I use (gray/dark blue), but seem to be fine for everyone else. I'm just too stubborn to change. ;)

I am sure... especially with that animated illustrated she had.

Your tables look just fine to me baby. :D

I think the original question referred to posted poems, not bulletin board images. The poems' and stories' layout is fixed width, and has nothing to do with screen resolution. :D
