Rebrand Day As “Fall Themed”…

Halloween Candy

Via EAG News:

A Connecticut school district is banning Halloween in an effort to be inclusive.

Victoria Johannsen, a mother of a third-grader at Live Oaks School in Milford Public Schools, says she received a letter stating the school’s decision to no longer recognize Halloween “arose out of numerous incidents of children being excluded from activities due to religion, cultural beliefs, etc.,” the Connecticut Post reports.

The school is discontinuing a popular costume parade, banning students and staff from wearing costumes on the day and is rebranding Oct. 31st to be “fall themed.”

And if that’s not bad enough, Michelle Obama’s school lunch rules are impacting the lack of fun: “food is not an option” for classroom activities, according to the school’s letter.
You don't even realize that Hallowe'en is on a Saturday, dumbass.

CAIR Demands Tennessee 7th Graders Learn “Mohammed Is The Messenger Of God”…

Via Daily Caller:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is calling on people in Tennessee to oppose a bill that would prevent public schools from teaching the principles of Islam and every other religion until students reach the 10th grade.

Tennessee state legislator Sheila Butt, a Republican, proposed the bill late last week in response to a grassroots campaign across the state by parents — primarily evangelical parents — against what they perceive as an inappropriate focus on Islam in history and social studies courses in taxpayer-funded middle schools.

House Bill 1418, if it becomes law, would prevent the teaching of all “religious doctrine” until students reach the last three years of high school.

CAIR labeled Rep. Butt’s bill “an anti-Islam bill” which is “tied to Islamophobic claims” in a statement sent to The Daily Caller.

Complaining parents from across Tennessee have expressed alarm in recent weeks because their children in a public middle school are learning about the Five Pillars of Islam in a world history class. (The first and most important pillar is roughly translated as: “There is no god but God. Muhammad is the messenger of God.” At the same time, the parents say, the course material pointedly ignores Christianity.

Would students be able to say the pledge if this bill passes?

Florida College Bans Pledge of Allegiance Because It Made “Some People Uncomfortable”…

pledge

Hmmm, any guesses as to who felt uncomfortable?

Via Red Alert Politics:

WFLA.com reported that the advisory council for Hillsborough Community College, in Fla., voted at its September meeting to drop the Pledge of Allegiance from meetings.

What started out as a proposal to save time turned into a discussion about “the Pledge of Allegiance and its appropriateness in an institution of higher learning which fosters academic freedom and structured dissent against authority.”

The accuracy of the minutes was being disputed by chair Sunshine Gibbons, according to an e-mail to WFLAC. The minutes did, however, reflect that “the Pledge made some people uncomfortable and that it violated their beliefs in academic freedom and the goals of the IAC.”

Even if the decision did come down to a time-saver, sophomore Scott Vosler, still doesn’t support the decision. He spoke to Fox and Friends about the council’s decision and mentioned “to be honest, the 12, 15 seconds it takes to say the pledge of allegiance is an insignificant amount of time.”

Soon it will be an arrestable crime for displaying an American flag in any way shape or form, even inside your own home.

Buying or selling an American flag will be a felony.

“The flag is fine, but we’re the only nation that worships the flag. It’s very heathen. The kingdom we live in, we pledge our allegiance to God, not the flag.”

When did freedom from being offended become a right?

It's further proof that liberalism is a mental disorder.

I would have guessed those who believe church and state should be separate.

It’s not quite The Town That Cancelled Christmas but there was a decidedly grinchy attitude taking hold in the Milford Public School district in Connecticut this year. The schools decided to cancel all parades, parties and costume contests for Halloween but after a number of complaints from parents it looks like the festivities are back on the schedule. (Fox News)

[O]fficials from Milford Public Schools decided on Monday to reinstate parades and other Halloween activities at elementary schools in the district after parents protested the original decision.

“The principals and I are about educating our children,” read a letter from School Superintendent Elizabeth Feser sent to parents Monday afternoon.”With this in mind, knowing that the issue of Halloween is detracting from what we are truly about, and our time with our children around teaching and learning is most important, we have decided to reverse our decision.”

The original decision by Milford school officials to ban all Halloween parades at the elementary schools across the district had parents moaning, according to the Connecticut Post.

Normally when I hear about a school wanting to dump Halloween I expect to see a religious group complaining about satanic imagery, devil worship or the general corrupting influence of the festivities. That doesn’t seem to be the case in Connecticut at all. (If they really want to get upset over the costumes they might want to take a look at some of the “slut-wear” but we’ll have more on that below.) They were expressing concerns over some children “feeling left out” if they didn’t want to participate, mixed in with some pandering about how it would take time away from the mission of education. But these are kids we’re talking about here. They need some relief once in a while and I’ve never seen the real harm in Halloween to begin with as long as they’re not pitching it to kids as an actual religious holiday or allowing it to turn into an adult film festival.

As for “feeling left out” if they don’t participate, welcome to the long, slow process of growing up. Kids feel left out if they don’t get a card on Valentines Day or if they don’t make the football team. It’s a pity we can’t make everyone feel great all the time, but the Everybody Gets a Trophy school of child rearing isn’t doing the kids any favors. If they really do want to find a problem with Halloween which both the schools and the parents could work on together, perhaps they could step in and make sure that the parents of the pre-teen girls aren’t sending them off to school dressed like sluts. Check out some of the advice for parents in the article, Avoiding sexy costumes for kids. (And really, isn’t it something of a red flag that an article by that title even had to be written in the first place?)

Or how about an opinion piece from an unexpected source… Parents, don’t dress your girls like tramps.

Abercrombie & Fitch came under fire this spring for introducing the “Ashley,” a push-up bra for girls who normally are too young to have anything to push up. Originally it was marketed for girls as young as 7, but after public outcry, it raised its intended audience to the wise old age of 12. I wonder how do people initiate a conversation in the office about the undeveloped chest of elementary school girls without someone nearby thinking they’re pedophiles?

What kind of PowerPoint presentation was shown to the Abercrombie executives that persuaded them to green light such a product?

That there was a demand to make little girls hot?…

We’ve been here with Abercrombie before — if you recall, about 10 years ago they sold thongs for 10-year-olds — but they’re hardly alone in pitching inappropriate clothing to young girls. Four years ago the popular “Bratz” franchise introduced padded bras called “bralettes” for girls as young as six. That was also around the time the good folks at Wal-Mart rolled out a pair of pink panties in its junior department with the phrase “Who Needs Credit Cards” printed on the front.
Yes, yes… I know. I’m an old man who’s probably already out there yelling at the damn kids to get off my lawn, so what do I know? But this trend has been going on for a while and nobody is doing anything to stop it. I see it around my own neighborhood and it makes me angry. It also tends to lead me to be a bit cynical when parents in the neighborhood express shock when their 15 year old granddaughter comes home pregnant. How does that happen?

Well, maybe somebody shouldn’t have started dressing her like a hooker at age ten.

Rant over. Go about your business.

Is your google broken dumbass? I gave you a direct quote.

oops, dumb question, your google is obviously broken since you can't find where planned parenthood said they don't take money for fetal tissue. Either that, or you're lying about it.

Hazbeen....cares about our troops....until they get maimed then they are just parasites on the government dole.

Rules are rules. It doesn't matter what is the reason for you to want to break them. When you break a rule - you get punished.
There are exceptions, but that's not a valid one. An exception would be if you are breaking rule to protect something or someone. And before that argument arises - no, protecting your patriotism is NOT a valid thing.

If we started making exceptions because someone got emotional - we'd end up in such a big mess that we'd lose much more.

Wesleyan University Gives Students Tips To Avoid “Offensive” Halloween Costumes…

Screen Shot 2015-10-14 at 1.48.36 PM

Just make fun of white men, can’t go wrong.

Via Campus Reform:

Now that Columbus Day is over, Wesleyan University is turning its attention toward the next controversial date on the calendar: Halloween.

Wesleyan’s Office of Student Affairs has placed posters throughout campus, an example of which was obtained by Inside Higher Ed, featuring a “Halloween Checklist” to help students determine whether their costume ideas might be offensive.

“Is your costume offensive?” the poster asks. “Check yourself and your friends.”

There follows a list of several general questions that students are encouraged to ask themselves before settling on a costume, such as whether it “[mocks] cultural or religious symbols such as dreadlocks, headdresses, afros, bindis, etc.” Another red flag, according to the flyer, are costumes that “attempt to represent an entire culture or ethnicity.”

Racial insensitivity is not the only concern, though, as the poster also asks students to consider whether their costumes “trivialize human suffering, oppression, and marginalization such as portraying a person who is homeless, imprisoned, a person with disabilities, or a person with mental illness.”

An employee at the Office of Residential Life informed Campus Reform that the poster was spearheaded by the Student Activities and Leadership Development office, but calls to that department had not been returned by press time.

Insights into the motivation behind the poster can, however, be gleaned from a small disclaimer stating that “this poster was inspired by the work of Hampshire College’s Community Advocacy Department.”

Hampshire’s version of the poster, while similar to Wesleyan’s, places a greater emphasis on racial and cultural sensitivities without specifically mentioning any other groups that might be subject to offense, and also offers students a sort of broad-based litmus test for evaluating their costume choices.

“Would I be embarrassed or ashamed if someone from the group I’m portraying saw me wearing this?” Hampshire’s poster prompts students to ask themselves. The checklist that follows, presumably intended for those who struggle to answer that question definitively, proceeds to warn against costumes that “perpetuate stereotypes, misinformation, or historical and cultural inaccuracies,” as well as those with packaging that features words like “traditional,” “ethnic,” “colonial,” “cultural,” “authentic,” or “tribal.”
