At the moment I am STUCK - no I do not have "Writer's Block" - I deny the existence of that condition.

I have two thousand words to write of one BDSM story, fifteen hundred on a historical BDSM, and should be working on my BDSM Novella.

Since writing 800 words of todays 1000 I have been on-line, cleaned the cooker, talked on the phone and done little else.

The question is should I pack-up for the night and read a book, or should I tortuously force out the final 200 words - clicking on count after every paragraph. The final option is to write a short story in another genre than BDSM.

How do other people cope in this situation?

jon:devil:

ps - just going to do some hoovering :p <SAD>

Why are you so rigidly stuck on word-count? I generally refuse to bother with anything so stifling...

But, really, if I'm that stuck, I'll go to bed and try another day. The harder I force myself, the less I enjoy it, and the less likely I am to want to return, leading to another period of 6 weeks or so when I don't even bother to touch the keyboard (anyone else get that?)

Having said that, putting on some music often helps the words flow out. It has to be something that I know really well, so I don't have to concentrate to follow the tune, just let it stimulate me. I wrote virtually all of my recent novella whilst listening to Fear Factory, NIN and the Manics. It's no wonder it's such a depressing story.

Take a break and read a book. Enjoy a glass of wine. Start fresh tomorrow. That's what I would suggest.

:) :D Chele,

Taken your tip.

Found an open bottle of my homemade Mead in the kitchen - now on the first glass.

The dog looks worried - maybe he wont get his late night walk.

jon:devil:

Oh dear! You know what Mead does for the libido and there is no one here. - No I am not into dogs!:p

write for fun

jon-

I'm way with you on the mead... I know, I shouldn't know what it is, I'm just a yankee, but my stint in renaissance theatre corrupted me. :D

I will respectfully disagree with my colleagues and suggest that you should write something in a different genre. Sometimes just putting a story away and working on something else can give you energy to go back to the original the next day, refreshed...

Also, I worry for anyone who is resorting to housecleaning when there is a perfectly good bottle of mead around!

Bridget,

You put yourself down - I found some very good Mead recepies on an American website.

And your country has styled itself more on the culture of the Roman Empire than mine. Take a look at Washington DC - You even have Senators.

I guess you know Mead was the wedding drink - hence the name Honeymoon!

Seriously it is a great drink, wish I could send you a glass instead I'll toast the screen.

Must go to pour another glass.

Okay, I have no idea what it is, but I want some of that mead stuff!

Just wondering: if you write to the Lit forums, does that qualify towards ones daily writing goals?

Finish the 200 wds by posting your recipe for mead. I've always wanted to try it, but it doesn't seem to be available on every street corner.

If I get stuck at some part of a story, I ALWAYS put it away. If I try to force out an ending, it will not be my Best Possible Effort, and if that's the case, then what's the point of writing the story at all?

Ofcourse, this doesn't apply when it's 5 minutes to deadline for a contest...

:) I dread to read what I wrote but glass in hand finished the 200.

Never fear KarmaDog, I will still give my Mead recipe.

Damn - don't even get any votes for this effort.:p :)

now.. to find someone to make it for me

I think I will e-mail this link to Martha Stewart and encourage her to do a show on the art of mead making... if she can make her own marshmallows (so insane!) she can make mead!

Warning to all that are new to mead.... it is incredibly seductive... easy to drink and lose track of which glass you are on..... and you really don't care. :D

I take a bath, and I approve of the wine. Chocolate works sometimes, too. I find that whenever I have a deadline, even if I impose it on myself, it makes me unable to produce anything. Relax, man. Take a chill pill. It'll work itself out in the end.

Love the recipe for Mead. Since you did not specify the type(flaver) of the honey I assume the generic Clover is suitable.

I also wonder what it would be like if you substituted Maple Shugar for the honey???

oh no!

TOM... think bees buzzing along summer fields... think balmy sunshine in a liquid form..... think piquant from the ginger and lemon...

Just a short update for all my fans:p

After a few glasses of Mead I went to bed (alone unfortunately) with a stonking hard - had a wank fell asleep and woke up with another hard-on. :p What a waste:rolleyes:

The_Old_Man whatever honey you use will affect the taste of your Mead - I use the cheapest as I have a limited budget and make it 5 gallons at a time. Maple Sugar treated in the same way would produce an alcoholic drink - a sort of first cousin to Mead but due to the lack of Honey not real Mead.

And yes you can increase the spices - technically spiced Mead is known as Medlin.

Hell - I may as well do some cut and paste and put this on How To.

jon:devil:

ps I am off to do some writing. bye
