Ok, so I am not sure why, but I find myself being very stubborn about a PC we got on the Voyeurism story I co-wrote with a friend. In the midst of many very positive comments there is this...

crap crap and more crap

This is pure crap. I think most people I know on this site can write better.

So, I figure it is trolling, if only because it is so diametrically opposed to all the other comments. I highly doubt the Anon. read the story, or why is the comment not more specific? But I still have a defiant streak that wants to keep it there just to show I am not afraid of criticism. What do others think? Am I being foolish? Should I just delete it and get it over?

And is it only coincidence that this is my only story without an "H"?

Hon, just delete it.

Don't let the dick have the glory of seeing it still here when he/she checks again.

Just be thankful the wankers can only vote once.

I had the same, delete and forget, other than that is what anon wants.

I disagree with removing it. Most wankers want to know that they can pull your chain, and that by deleting his post you have played right into his hands. I think he will actually get frustrated if he knows that you left the "criticism" in place amid the praise. It is like the guy who writes a letter to the editor that starts out, "I know you will not print this letter, but..."

Leave it in place and always remember that any asshole with a dial-up connection can get online and post replies here at Lit. Take it from an asshole with a dial-up connection. :)

I leave all my comments, might as well let the rest of Lit share in my laughter of the idiocy of a few - *snicker*.

Bel, I never remove any comments, unless they are plainly offensive.
I have one on my latest story, the first comment in fact, which tells me that I should stop trying to write and go back to reading gothic novels.

I have deliberately left it, because, like you, it goes completely against all the other comments, and the many complimentary feedback mails I have received. I may one day, post my own response, but in my heart I know its a waste of time, because they just don't read, or at least, see anything other than their own words.

Leave it up there, so that you and everyone else can laugh at what an idiot this Mr./Mrs/Ms/Miss anonymous is.

I was very hurt by the first ever offensively rude, anti-feedback I received. But now have learned to see them for what they are. The rantings of ignorant, jealous people.

Mat :rose:

Leave it. He wins if you react childishly, and you gotta take the good with the bad.

An honest response besides that might be to disallow all comments. But I never delete one, unless it's patently hurtful to some group or other person. No sense leaving up hate graffiti on principle (I got one about niggers on a Jip story, which I dumped).

I would agree with most here. Trolls we have always with us. They hide behind Anonymous and vent their anger with nasty comments and 1 votes. The nasty comments can be ignored, the 1 votes are a bit more damaging. However, take heart, Laura deletes most of the obvious 'bomber' votes.

Laurel's never to my knowledge deleted a '1' vote from any of my stories... she has deleted '5' votes cast by friends to try to recover from the troll '1' vote however... Yes I kept an eye on the figures, I'm not making this up or guessing.

Keep you PC's, never delete them just because you get a harsh comment... you asked for comment by allowing PC's... To delete the bad one's and keep the good would make you look petty in the eyes of the troll and he / she would have won.

The heading for PCs starts 'The author is responsible...'.

I have deleted a run of PCs and my answers from one story that was criticised for historical accuracy. The debate was about my experience in the UK at the time compared with the conditions in one part of the US at the same time. We were arguing about chalk and cheese. We were both right but my story was based on my own experience. I left the PCs for a couple of weeks before deleting.

In the last few days I had feedback pointing out that the Greeks did not have triremes in the Trojan War (my Olympic story). The feedback is right but I'm claiming poetic licence and leaving the story unchanged. That was a very diplomatic and proper way to tell an author an error. Only the person sending the feedback and I (and now all of you) know that I was wrong.

Some of my stories are experiments that fail e.g. 'Trapped'. The PCs on that are fair comment so I have left them, as I have for other PCs that didn't like one of my stories.

My view is that if you draw a 'troll' or sick 'anonymous' you must have written something good enough to upset them. Count your 1's and 2's as indications of success if they conflict with the general mark/comment trend.

You should be generous and leave them so the 'Anons' can admire their work. Poor sods, it's the only life they have, and the only little 'pleasure' they get in life. Don't grudge them it.

Candids ( Thinks, "that should be worth another couple of 'bombs' :) )

I've only ever had two nasty pcs (shameless bragging here) but i've left them both on just as a matter of principle. They always create such a nice contrast amidst all the praise.

Yin yang and all, you know.

I've only had one such comment and I left it. I can understand deleting them especially when there is nothing constructive about them, but for myself it seems dishonest to only leave the positive for others to see.

Then again, that's easy for me to say because my troll-ish PC wasn't anon and was done in apparent retaliation after a comment I had left on a story by the same author. Knowing who posted it and that he was upset enough beforehand to not only delete my comment, but turn off PCs altogether, surely makes it easier for me to blow it off than if it were anon bullshit like the comment left on your story.

Hmmm....I've lost my train of thought now. I had a point somewhere, I promise, I've just forgotten what it was...;)

Anonymous is a dick. I don't like that fucking guy. All he ever seems to do is shit on everyone's work. Fuck him. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I have factual evidence myself from my submissions page (I keep an ongoing record) that each and every one of my stories were 1-bombed over a 24 hour period, knocking 4 of them out of the lists, and removing 2 'H's. I sent a note as per instructions on the story page, quoting chapter and verse, but never heard anything, and the bombs were never removed. The scoring is slowly creeping up, but the 'h's are still absent, and only two have remained in the lists, dropping by around 300 places. *shrug*

's life I guess.

As it stands now I am leaning towards keeping it. I feel defiant about it. Especially since I have a comment above it so that it is not the first one you read. I admit I did have worries about it affecting other readers.
