Strict Leather suspension cuff ?

What is the purpose / benefit of the two sections or split of the leather extension on the Strict Leather suspension cuff?
Are these decent cuffs?

BTW - We're not intending to do full suspension; just something comfortable when arms are pulled up above the head.

As the subs or pyls arms tire she/he can grasp the leather straps and relieve the tension on the wrists. This is especially important when in full suspension.

Think comfort for the sub and /or prevent damage to the wrists.

I understand the benefit of being able to grasp the extended section of leather but why the split / two sections on the Strict Leather version?
I've seen other brands with a single section; does the split provide any useful purpose?

I'm thinking the split would allow you to triangulate the um... whatchamajigger points... so that the person in them wouldn't be able to wiggle their hand even that much. Which, whoah.

Yeah, seems like it might be for tightening them a bit. And then the buckle is for locking.
