Hey all! I'm ready to submit my first story to Lit, but I have a couple of questions about the submission that I haven't found answers to in the FAQ's or other areas. Any help would be fantastic!

1. If I submit the story as a .doc (Word) file, will all the formatting be kept automatically? I occasionally italicize words, and I don't want to lose that emphasis.

2. Most all long stories I read are broken into parts, with links to the various sections at the bottom of the page. I have also read a few stories that were tremendously long and all on one page. Does Lit automatically break up long stories for you? Or is that something I need to request in the notes of my submission?

I've put a lot of time into this first chapter, and being a "virgin author" here, I want to make sure my efforts aren't thwarted by a faulty submission.

Thanks for any help!

Hi, Tex, and welcom to Lit. and to AH. This is a nice place to hang out sometimes when you don't feel like writing or doing anything else constructive.

Personally, I write on my HD and paste onto the submission page. That seems to work the best, at least for me.

If you want your story broken into parts you have to submit it that way. If you submit a 20,000 word story as one unit it will be posted as one unit. Requesting that Lit do it probably won'r do any good; they will just tell you to break it up yourself. I'm not certain about that last paragraph but that is what I did on the only submission that I have in parts. (Karen's Birthday)

Good luck and I hope you enjoy yourself on Lit and AH.

Hey, Godbless.

I submit in word format, and type into the comments box in the submission form:

"Please preserve line spacing and italics. Thanks."

That works for me.

Long stories will get broken up "automatically."

Godbless,

I prefer copying and pasting into the submission box because it is the fastest. If you want italics or bold characters in your story, just see this.

I didn't understand your question about breaking stories. Lit. has a fixed number of words per page. If one story is more than that, then it automatically gets onto the second page. If you're talking about different chapters, you'll have to submit them separately.

DP, You're a star!

Dampy,

Thanks for including that 'How to do Bold and Italics' link when you cut and paste. I've often wondered, and I should have known to ask you. As always, you remain the friendliest and most helpful little pair of panties on the site;)

You're welcome, GG. Just sharing what I know. :)

And thank you too. :rose:

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone - and so quickly too!

To answer a few questions, my story is a first chapter, and it is 12,000+ words. So yes, I will be submitting more chapters separately, but at 12,000 words I would want to see it split into at least 3 parts rather than all being on one long screen. So that was my question.

I have decided that I should have been an author. As I sit at my desk job all day, I constantly fight the urge to open up Word and continue my story. When I go home at night, I think about it as well. Did I miss my calling? Who knows, but I'm sure enjoying the writing!

Thanks again for the advice!

Hey, Texas, welcome. No, you haven't missed it if you're writing now. Thinking about it all the time is a good sign.

best, Perdita

Hi again, Tex.
A story of 12,000 words will probably be spread out over about four Lit. pages. Each page has a separate screen. If you want it some other way you will have to break it up further into two or three chapters.

I have always thought that I should have been an author. Even as a child, I had a way with the written words but I never had the time or the discipline to sit and write until now, when I am retired and don't have to spend time working any more.

Howdy Tex!

Welcome to Lit and the AH. Not many of us Texans around here, but that's okay. I'm probably noisy enough all by myself to suit everyone else here. ;)

Enjoy your time and keep writing. It's the only thing currently keeping me sane.

Hey Welcome Y'all, another Texan to add to the band of Brits, and other assorted nuts. You'll really like the people from the East Coast, a truly lovely bunch.

Yes, it IS the abdomen...just because you can tell where I'm going doesn't excuse the fact that in this particular photo I'm at her abdomen. Sheesh. I think I should know!
