I just spent the ENTIRE day yesterday writing my story. Only to have it sent back for being AI. So I rewrote every single word BY MYSELF which took the ENTIRE day today, and it got rejected for AI use again. If I used AI it would have taken me less than an hour to complete my story. I just wasted a whole day for nothing. I don't think I'll be posting on here anymore. I was really excited to put my second version of my story and I am so devastated after wasting two whole days that I am actually in tears! AI is freaking useless why would I use it? It never gets the tone right, gives incorrect corrections, and makes all rephrases WAY too formal. Would would anyone use AI? I didn't! I'm not posting on here anymore sorry guys but I won't waste any more days on this stupid site.

Very hurt. Was really excited for my second version because I spent months on it. I think I started on my second version in June or July. Took me an entire day to do all the final edits yesterday. Spent the entire day re-typing every single word.

When I started writing on the site, it was the first time in a year I had something to look forward to. And the first time ever to have people actually interested and wanting more. I just wanted to give you my best work in this second version. But LItercica moders ruined it for me.

Sorry. I'm not wasting more time.

I'm not really an author 1 out ±25 of my stories I sent in was accepted because of I was using Microsoft Copilot to proofread and edit my short stories. The main reason is because the ai editing was replacing too much of my original. When it comes down to the writing a story in any form I'll be the first to say that I truly suck at it. I barely passed middle school and high school English but anyways my imagination is boundless when it comes to the outside world I don't really give a Frak what happens don't get me wrong I'm not a introvert its 50/50 balance. I have several gigabytes of data of my writings, ideas art ideas as well etc. I stop trying to submit my works to the literotica website, I guess I am a better reader than a writer and I still get my phone to use read aloud for that lol

It's their sandbox.

I think I am done here. The staff sent my latest story second time back because they were thinking that I used AI translator. I admitted that I had used it in some sentences but after that I had sent it to human editor and I sent it again when they sent the story back first time. He made huge job editing the whole story again. What they did? They rejected it again. Because I had used AI translator in few sentences in my original text that had after that edited twice. They recommended that I use editor which I had used TWICE! Second recommendation was that I use human translator.... Yeah... Show me one person here that speaks fluent English AND Finnish which is my native language. And what is the difference if I ask from AI to translate a sentence or I ask it from some human? I understand if I ask AI to write me erotic story and then publish that. By the way AI does not even translate anything that involves sex. So when you are claiming that I used AI when wrote quite a kinky story you are not knowing this. If AI would have translated it it wouldn't involve any sex. Chatgpt works like that. Also plain translator programs are using AI nowadays. So when you use for example Grammarly that was recommended here for me earlier it uses AI also. I don't make the rules here but if you want any foreign writers write also in the future you should turn yourself also to this time. AI is here and belongs to this time. I don't write any story here if it so hard to get anything published. I have here quite many stories and followers. I think I have done something right with my editor. Writing a story is a huge efford for the writer and editor. When they reject them without even reading more than one sentence from my explanation I feel that they are shitting on my and my editors huge work. Maybe they are using AI to read this stories and let it do the rejections.

That sucks. I think we all know the effort it takes to write a story, and for it to be rejected must be incredibly frustrating.

That said, the site has a very firm stance on anything AI-produced. Precisely why remains unclear, but quite possibly a combination of principle - it's a site founded specifically for writers and reader, after all - and concern about potential liability if the hammer ever comes down on AI-generated content.

As a professional editor, I can tell you that translation software isn't your answer, even if it says it doesn't use AI. Machine translation still falls short of providing reliable quality and consistency. And unless someone likes you a lot, you'll struggle to find a decent translator who'll do it for free. Translation is very much one of those services where you get what you pay for. (Editing can be too, and I suspect that many volunteer editors here on the site burn out very quickly when they realise how much work it is.)

But don't despair. You're not the only non-English speaker writing here. @Omenainen is Finnish, @Devinter is Swedish, @TheLobster is (I think?) Dutch. There are plenty of others too. Maybe one of them can pop in and share their experiences.

From my own experience as a reader since probably the early-2000s, my best advice is to worry less about perfect English and focus on telling a good story with a strong, authentic voice. There are stories here by native English speakers - including some of the most popular authors - that are barely readable.

And that probably only adds to the frustration you must be feeling. But hopefully it will also be encouraging.

Good luck!

I forgot to add: you can always try resubmitting your story and adding a "Note to the Editor" explaining the situation.

@TheLobster is (I think?) Dutch.
I hereby express my deepest offense on behalf of the Dutch.

More to the point, though... I don't use any grammar tools, and only a handful of my 20+ stories had anyone's eyes on them other than my own. Perhaps the deficiencies in my own grammar is what ultimately saved from every having an AI rejection.

I had one or two comments early on about needing an editor, before I (mostly) figured out how narrative tense works. I've read through several articles on that and on dialogue punctuation to make sure I have those aspects sorted out. As for punctuation in general, my tagline says Comma Aficionado for a reason ;)

So I guess the bottom line is that you can write in English as your non-native language without the usage of AI-like tools, be it for translation and composition. In my case, however, the massive caveat is likely the fact that I use English constantly in my professional work and have lived in English-speaking countries for several years.

I tried in my first stories write so that I was thinking the English is not have to be perfect. I had many rejections and I wrote again and again the same stories and when finally they published the story the readers filled my stories with messages that told how they could not understand my stories or even laughed my language. At the same time many liked so I think some people could understand it.

I was searching all the time editor that would help me. That was very painful project. Some wrote that they would help and when you sent the story to them nothing happened. They promised and promised but they never did the editing. So I sent it some other that had made the same promise. Same thing happened. It could go months like that. Finally one good editor messaged me and he have helped me with many of my stories.

I write decent English I think when I keep my writing simple but I can't express myself like I can using my native language. The translators aren't the answer in any way. I have noticed that they work somehow when you are using languages like English, Spanish or French. Finnish is a very complex language and translator companies are not that interestid in developing their software so that it would work with Finnish good. Languages like Swedish and Dutch are completely different languages than Finnish. Swedish belongs in the same language group than English so it is quite different to make translations from Swedish to English than from Finnish.

Then the game changer came. AI. It can translate your Finnish sentence to perfect English. So when I was not able to tell the thing like I wanted in English I could ask AI. It is always available. I can't think that any person can be always available for me. The other way is just keep the English simple and let that story look like it too.

One way is that you ask editor rewrite the whole story again. If someone would do that would it be my story anymore? The editor can't know how I would have liked to write it differently. After big changes it would be more his than my story. It wouldn't be me telling that story anymore.

If I would find good translator that would translate also perverted stories just like I wrote them in Finnish it would be like winning in a lottery. Some said that I could pay from good translation. From what money I would pay it? The money literotica pays from these stories?😆 Writers are doing this for free and using their own time a lot just to give something to read for the others. I have no intentions to use money so that the site can have readers.

By the way. I wrote also this text without translators or AI. Sorry if you can't understand a thing what I am trying to tell.

Huge respect for anyone attempting fluency in multiple languages. Your second message is perfectly legible. You do not need AI to interpret for you, you're doing just fine on your own. Finnish is a very different language from English, but you are managing well.

Some writers have had success submitting stories with tracked changes enabled.

As @StillStunned said, write a note to the administrator. Have your editor reach out to Laurel via PM on the forum. All is not lost. Good luck

I have wrote the explanation twice to the staff when trying to publish my story. Only sentence they had found there was that I had used AI translator. Everything else was nothing to them. I think they had not even paid any attention what was my message.

It is quite different to write into some bulleting board than write a story that floas well and you can have there that atmosphere than you intended to have. I can always write something like "then he fucked her.." simple and understandable but quite lame and boring.

Also, for future reference. Don’t write in Finnish and then translate. Write it in English. You’ll learn, and it’ll serve you well in your life. How long is the story and what is it about? @rampe

@Omenainen olen kirjoittanut tänne vuosien varrella yli 40 tarinaa, joten harjoiteltukin on.

@Omenainen And I always write in English. I only use translator in rare sentences if I am not sure how it goes well in English. The story is quite long but I can show it to you if you like.

I'm looking at all that Finnish, and it's like those lines of random characters you get if Word tries to open a corrupt file.

I'm jealous that you people can make sense of it.
Finnish is easier in the sense that each letter has only one sound, but it's the partitives (Omenainen or rampe could correct me) that make it more complex. I once saw someone list about 8 different forms of a word in German, but the Finnish beat that easily--it was something like 36.

Very sorry to hear that!

I've helped 3 people who got their stories rejected for alleged AI and one was blind. I helped with hers but even that effort (after I told her to have someone help her include a note to Laurel about having it edited and name me as the editor), but it appears she gave up (which I could understand)...and that's sad, because it was a cute tale. With the other 2, theirs passed through without a hitch (published in 2 days, each one).
