Inspired by KillerMuffin's recent thread, I wanted to take a moment to mention a few stories I've really enjoyed recently, and to thank the authors. The stories below are all quite different, and are by no means an exhaustive list of recommendations -- it's just a start.

If you like good, evocative writing and well-developed characters, any of the these stories should appeal to you.

Reluctant Players by Rainbow Skin

Lesbian Sex - 2 pages

Maybe the best dialogue I've read on Lit. Two actresses, a veteran and a sweet newcomer, try to prepare for a very graphic sex scene in their upcoming play. Fascinating and likable characters, believable story (and sex), and again -- the dialogue is extraordinary. Nothing extraneous here, masterfully done.

Very polished, lyrical prose, and passionate, vivid sex. Lonely housewife has an encounter with a stranger in the laundry room. This story is near the top of the Anal list, and it should be even higher.




One Eye Open by Albatross

Anal - 2 pages

Delicious little story about a college guy with a yearning for anal sex and an uncooperative girlfriend. He watches his girlfriend's roommate wake up and play with herself (and her ass) every morning. Excellent writing, sexy premise, and a wonderful hook to open the story.




Chasing Fire by jfinn

Romance - 2 pages

Flawless writing, rough and realistic dialogue, interesting characters, fantastic build-up of sexual tension, and a sweet little twist at the end. Another lonely woman (a sophisticated and intelligent city girl), out for a stroll on the streets of San Francisco with her dog, stops to join a crowd watching a group of firemen battle a townhouse fire. Hypnotized by one of the fire fighters, she goes off with him alone, to a dark alley...

Foxglove Fairy by Rainbow Skin

I just read this and I couldn't have loved it more. For anyone out there who doesn't ordinarily read this category -- read this one. It's short, but the writing -- and the story -- are unusually beautiful. And hot. And captivating.

Since I couldn't do the story justice with a two-line synopsis, I'll just say it's about a poisonous flower, a lusting fairy, and a very imaginative and sexual lady... Just a joy to read.

All Liv's stories have the most vividly real people of any here: not only do you know their faces and hairstyles, but their jewellery and clothing, where they live and work and what they eat. The richness of detail has always been a model for my own work. And the sex is fantastic too, consuming and convincing. I could choose any of hers, but this one had the telling detail that people preparing for bed smell of toothpaste. Most writers would airbrush that out: Liv Blake weaves it into her spell.




Chance Encounter by Salteena

Romance - 2 pages

A man picks up a hitch-hiker in the rain and takes her back to his home to get her warm and dry. Wearing one of his bathrobes, she talks to him. Salteena's talent is in well-rounded characters, but no-one on Literotica has haunted me the way Caroline here has: you can see the intensity in her eyes, the thoughts moving across her face, the graceful relaxation of her body, the glow of her hair.

A hitch-hiking story with three-dimensional people and a detailed plot. The characters' emotions and intelligence are explored, the sex is both vivid and sensitive, and you wonder how they're going to get through things, what direction the complications will take them.



The Wedding Night by matriarch

Lesbian Sex - 2 pages

Elegant and striking as they wander round in public, but their lust for each other builds up. Once alone, the sex is both vivid and sensitive (yes, I like it that way), and involves lots of lovely toys whose usage is dwelt on in gripping detail. You never lose the strong sense of the love between them.

I definitely agree on Impractical Cat - opened it a while ago wondering why I was doing it (Non-human? huh?) -- not exactly true, I was opening it because I enjoyed all of Sarah's other stories so much and it was the only one left. I loved it, fiction at it's best, it transported me and made me understand just a little what it would be like....
I'll trot right over and read Foxglove Fairy now!

Breaking Patterns by XicotencatlSmith

Erotic Horror - 3 pages

I thought about texture a lot of late. Texture and temperature and the pattern of sensation in the palm of a hand. My fixations have become simpler and infinitely deeper during my Travels, like a cold and noisy stream that jostles over cracked granite boulders down into a deep and ancient mountain lake with a surface like a mirror. It goes from noise and motion to silence and still depths, just as I have.

Remarkably original story. It starts off simply enough, just following the male narrator as he seems to be picking out a video to rent; there's a vague suggestion of sadness and loss behind everything, but nothing explicit. Then it takes a turn, and seems to become darker... and then it takes another turn, and becomes something else entirely. Saying any more would spoil the pleasure of slowly unraveling this sensual gem.

Fascinating and provocative, and the sex, when it comes -- though it's a small part of the story -- ends up being a very moving and appropriate climax.

A gem in New Stories, very funny, yet tender and movingly real with it. So clever, so wry, I loved it.

A Love Story by goldendragan

Incest - 1 page

The title is bland. The dialogue technique is a little obscure - if it was more serious you'd put in boring advice about being clearer. But it doesn't matter here, it's an interior monologue by a smart, sassy, obsessed, fallible mix between Bridget Jones and Cinderella. And funny. And, oddly, believable. The people aren't unrealistic, they're gentle and human and they want a fuck.



In complete contrast, a long and sad and haunting one, full of tragedy and hope.

Shelter in the Storm by Alex the Cat

Lesbian Sex - 5 pages

It begins a bit cluttered, speeding you through past tragedies, present despairs, and a large cast and multiple scenes, but that works. Suddenly you know them. Two workplaces, two groups, night and day, individuals with work lives and home problems. The realistic characters include several dogs. Gradually the two women draw together, and ever more complexity is revealed: their inner beauty, their worries about each other, their playfulness. Gradually? I had been reading this forever, revelling in how much there was, and found that I had started crying on page 2, and had hardly begun it yet.

I stumbled unto this story one evening in the Erotic Couplings section and found it quite interesting. The setup was unusual and the dialogue was realistic and convincing. it didn't hurt that the sex was hot as hell and very well written..
Most of this young woman's stories seem highly rated and I would suggest that you give them a try.

I just had to rec these two chapters by MlledeLaPlumeBleu. The author captured the heat and the Bayou mood so beautifully I craved iced tea! Spy Games Ch. 01 by prophet007

BDSM - 1 page

A strikingly convincing and intelligent story. It could be a scene that happened to be erotic in the middle of a good mainstream novel. Second World War espionage, a blend of teasing and torture, three-dimensional characters in a battle of wits and endurance. It sets its scene in the past and stays there: it doesn't degenerate into any old sex scene, but stays thoroughly believable and wedded to its historical context. The stylish, subdued wit of a complete episode of The Avengers.



Proper Place by LilyMelb

NonConsent - 2 pages

A graphic account of being overborne by someone who doesn't care about her feelings, and she wants to respond even as she is horrified at how she has lost control. Written with galloping, literate sentences, conveying all the subtleties of movement and emotion, this is a shockingly vivid reality.
