Recently I started a story that began in gay sex. The next chapter moved into the category of mind control. A future chapter may lead it to incest.

What is the procedure for this type of story, the type that covers all the bases, so to speak? Do you pick one category and leave it there even though the subject changes or move it to an appropraite category and lose readers?

Thanks in advance,
M

In this case leave it in GS. I've heard they're tolerant of virtually all subject matter (assuming it includes some m/m aspect)

As a general rule, however, I would say you should pick the subject that is most important to you about the story and leave it entirely in there. Switching generas for each part of a story is almost always a bad move.

Hi Mpulse? Yours truly, who you've talked to by private e-male here, Quesla: Indeed, I've found that having to search categories to follow a story is frustrating. I guess all I can say is how many scenes of each genra are in the total story if you throw all the chapters in a pile? If there are more scenes of one particular kind/genre?- -then stick the whole works in that genre. For instance, Melani & The Bryar? It could go in romance, non-human or Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Reasons: A bond of romance may be forming between Melani and the Bryar? Non-human? The Bryar is obviously not human! Or sci-fi? -It obviously is a world not of Earth. Different creatures, different flora & Fauna Possibly very different social standards. Which is going to have the most sex scenes in it? All human to human? Are most of the sex scenes between the Bryar & the human, then by all means go non-human. If there are going to be a lot more sex scenes of other human and other non-human characters, other than Melani & her furry boyfriend? -maybe Sci-fi/Fantasy is the answer.

If you are speaking of chapters, I suggest you put it in novels/novellas. From experience, I can tell you that Gay Male put anywhere but GM won't be seen by the intended audience and will be zapped by some of the other readers. But what you describe seems to be menage and in chapters, so I think novel/novellas is the safest place. I have such a novel there (which includes GM scenes) that gets few votes/reads (in keeping with the category), but has gotten mainly nice votes and comments.
