Having edited someones story, we are currently trying to decide where in lit it should be submitted to.

It is 31096 words long, and cannot be easily broken into parts putting it into the novella category. The question we have is if lit can support a story of that length all at once or if it will have to be submitted in pieces.

As all of my stories (under a different account) are much shorter, I don't know for sure, so I came to ask before jumping in with both feet only to find out it doesn't work that way.

Any ideas?

I think that if you put suc a long sotry ANYWHERE ELSE but in Novels & Novellas, people would spam you and "1" you forever.

Lit can support a whole lot without breaking it up. I recall on another thread someone saying they had seen a story that was 12 lit pages long.

I do agree with Flicka. If you cannot break it up into more bite sized morsels you would probably be best served posting it in novels and novellas no matter what the relatice content.

Also, in N&N, people are more patient. They know that it may take a while to get to the sex part. They won't demand a sex scene in every chapter.

My stories are mostly 10,000 words or so, which I think usually comes out about five pages. I'm pretty sure I've seen some pretty long ones in the Most Top Popular Glorious Stories Ever lists, so I wouldn't feel concerned that long stories attract disgruntled readers.

Novellas, eh? That sounds like something I should consider for my story in progress. One chapter is over 10,000 words long.

But how many people read novellas?

There is a limit on the number of words that can be submitted through the text box on the submision page with C&P. I don't recal what the limit is, but it's a very high limit -- I submitted a 50,000 word test story when I helped test the submission script.

Although there is a limit on the size of a story submitted through the text box, there is no practical limit on stories submitted as TXT, DOC, or RTF files.

There is at least one story on Lit that is over 100K words, so your 31K word story is well within the capabilities of Lit to post as a single story.

Thank you for all the advice, I have passed it on and the person has submitted it in its entirety

I am notoriously wordy, all of my stories run long and my last few have run really long. I haven't noticed a slow down in voting or feedback due to length. What I have noticed is the wanker club members will slam you for a long story where there isn't sex from sentence one. They are going to slam any long work, so when you post be prepared to ignore a good bit of anon feedback from the beat off bookshelf crowd.

I agree. People who want longer pieces will automatically expect them to be there.
