This is my second day of membership; if only we knew of similar resources in our prime. Oh well, better late than never. I would love to write but do not have the skills; just the imagination. Story idea:The setting and plot of this idea have plagued many of my colleagues as well as my wife and me for years now. I have two daughters who are Clinical Nurse Specialists in Honolulu. My elder daughter is also an Army Reserve Officer. Both of them spent a year in Japan, Phillipines, and Thailand as post-grads. They are half Japanese, one quarter Puerto Rican, and one quarter Fillipina. Our concern was that they would be caught up in a coup-de-tat, terrorist action, natural disaster, etc. and be forced to melt into the general population or worse. Of course our concerns are no longer applicable but the many nightmares I had while they were over-seas continue to haunt me on occasion. Believe me, having served with MAC-V and the 100th Inf. Btn. I could only begin to imagine the plight of a young Japanese-American girl, Phillipine-American girl, etc. forced to hide among the poverty and disease ravaged areas they were posted to let alone becoming captives of a modern-day warlord in the midst of a major offensive...or siege. Hurricane? Earthquake? There's got to be a good story in their somewhere. Mahalo nui.

I agree that the storyline is a good one. But it would likely have to end up in the novel/novella category due to the length of such a tale. AND if it didn't go into that category, the chances of the story being written positively about their escape would be slim. Most writers, I would venture, would have her becoming a sex slave to the regime and sleeping her way to freedom- only to discover that she just wanted sex and not rights after all.

Addendum

I just thought it would make a great adventure story; believe me, there is not one negative scenerio my over-active imagination has not put me through while they were there. Phase II starts soon, my eldest daughter's reserve unit has been in Iraq for four months now. I'm new to this site (as a member, been reading for years) and am still trying to learn the protocols. Thanks for your feedback.

Actually, Iguama, writing is nothing but imagination. The skills involved come from writing and writing some more. Aurther Miller said back in the 50's, "If you want to be a writer then write. School is an expensive waste of time."

I spend most of my time in the Feedback Forum. To be honest some of the first attempts are pretty dismal. But with help, even the worst move on to write good stories.

Give it a try. We can't write what's in your head. Only you can do that.
