Story comments not allowed

I recently published my first story (Mother in law was a raver) and it says "comments are turned off by the author".
If I look at the submission settings for the story it shows comments and voting are both set to 'On'.
Any ideas please as I was hoping to get some feedback?

All I can think of is to also check your global settings: Options | My Options | Turn Off All Feedback? No.

That should default to No for a new author - you get comments until you turn them off. I don't know how that interacts with the separate options for each story.

Another idea: turn the story comment option off, save it, and turn it back on. The Lit interface is screwy enough that this might work, and presumably can't make it worse.

You must have accidentally set it that way, when you submitted the story. Rookie's error, no harm done.

Wince. In my recollection, submitting a story doesn't usually involve navigating to your My Options panel. And obviously the default for that global option must be yes/on, or no new writer would ever get comments, because it would never occur to them to explore their options. I can't imagine what went wrong but I'm staring with a frowny face at the brown-paper-and-string Lit interface/database/whatever it is that keeps dropping cogs onto the road.

I have the same problem. My first story and "comments are turned off by the author" without I ever had opened the Option Panel.
Now I've changed the setting to YES and no change at all. On/off several times...no change, still "comments are turned off by the author"

It should be immediate, but occasionally the synching falls over. Don't toggle back and forth; set the option to allow comments, and be patient. If it doesn't come good in 24 hours, report the story and bring it to Laurel's attention that way.
