I have a question: I've gotten a couple PC's on one of my stories saying that it should be in another category. What do you think? Has this ever happened to anyone else before? How did you handle it? Comments, questions, whines and gripes are all welcome!

There will always be people that think a story would be better suited elsewhere. I read the first chapter of "Suburbia" and I can understand why someone would think it should be in the interacial category. However, if you want it in the Loving Wives section and the editors of Lit don't significantly disagree it should go where you want it.

Many stories posted here could easily cross boudaries and so the actual section where they are posted can be a little subjective. I think the purpose categories serve is to help direct readers to stories that feature story lines and sex scenes they like, in addition to providing an easy way to sort the tons of stories on here. Actually one of my stories was posted under a different section than I had initially intended it to be, but the results turned out fine.

There have been a number of long discussions of this topic, mostly in the Author's Hangout.

The concensus seems to be that the categories are not a very good way of discriminating between stories, but that with over 100,000 stories posted it is too late to try to introduce any finer classification, let alone the kind of information that is on some other boards.

Jus one example is Novels and Novellas which tells you it is a long(ish) story, but not if it is FF, MM, MF or whatever, nor if it is historical or Sci-fi, nor if it is incest or cheating.

Us underling volunteer editors do not assign categories but somewhere, way back when I still had hair on my head, I recall a note from on high that we have too many 'Erotic Coupling' tales.

The point was that, where possible, it would be good for everyone if a more specific category were chosen to lighten up the EC load and spread the cheer to other pastries.

Not sure that was the point of your notes but it's worth considering.
