Story Categories and number of viewers

I have submitted several stories usually under the group category or loving wives and once under erotic couplings. I have noticed that the number of viewers for almost all my stories is in the tens of thousands except for the one story submitted under erotic couplings. I am curious if that is because of the story quality or if some categories seem to get a larger audience. I would like to know what other authors experiences are in this regard.

So far, both my stories are under erotic couplings and have nowhere near that many viewers. I thought it was because they weren't very good. Now I can blame it on poor category choices?!?

If you can mention a brother and sister screwing in the bushes outside the apartment building where your story is set, you may place your story in the "Incest Category" and get far superior numbers.

Your feedback, however, may reflect that the fact that your readers are pissed at you, for misleading them.

I just submitted my 4th story, released Saturday.

Up until then, I had erotic couplings, group, and had got approximately 20,000 looks at two of them, and over 25000 for the third.

This weekend, the 4th story was incest. In two days, I have over 25,000 looks, and more feedback from one story than all the others combined.

Seems like some were young adult males, fantasies about their sister or mom, but many comments about the story.

Scary, that many readers enjoying the incest side of life. Over the past several days, Dr. M has had a great thread regarding the interest in incest. Way to go Dr. M

I just looked at mine for the first time in a long while. The stories with the most views are in "How to," and "First time." Unfortunately, I put most of my stuff in "EC" before I learned better.

A better title for Erotic Couplings would be, MISCELLANEOUS. It's the biggest category and apparently has no "following." By that I mean most readers seem to have favorite, specialized, categories. However, EC doesn't seem to attract many loyal readers.

While Incest is the second largest category, BDSM, Group Sex, and Loving (cheating) Wives. have sizeable followings and are likely to produce the most views.

If you're interested in getting votes based more on the quality of your writing as opposed to just the quantity of sex scenes or how close the couple is related, and would like a little useful feedback, then Romance, Mature, plus Novels and Novellas are probably be your best bets.

There has been (may be) a Lit contest that required writers to crank out a story in several (all?) of the categories. Don't be afraid of experimenting. But I've got a hunch virtually every writer here at the old AH would tell you to write your story, the one you want to tell, then worry about the category.
