Stories Pending and not published

Top right of this page, click on the envelope, and start a new Conversation, addressed to Laurel.

Give her the story details, be polite, and it should move. Or get formally rejected, in which case you'll get a message on your Control Panel, and the story will reappear in Drafts.
Thank you!!

I hear a lot of conjecture about this. Personal experiences. but does anyone really understand what is happening?

The first two stories I submitted got published very promptly. The third one is stuck for a while. I wonder how this works. Is it random or do they have some order in the chaos? The system seems very opaque.

My first two stories on this site got published within three days of each other. (I hit my 20th anniversary here earlier this month.)
I currently have 78 stories and some poems. All published quickly. Hence, my pondering. It may be true that they are overloaded. I don’t know. I’m not upset, just wondering.🤷‍♂️

Historically, if an active contest or challenge is receiving entries at the time, these get priority over regular submissions. It's not tough to check to see what is going on with the site before submitting a story. For example, the 2026 Halloween Contest has received over 300 entries during the past few weeks and these all got published quickly. The entry period has now ended.

You can either wait until the coast is clear to submit, or submit and wait for the queue to clear out from the contest/challenge entries because they will get priority.
