Hi!

Strange question, I know, but does anyone know if all stories have the same waiting time before being published?

Specifically, if I post a story to a less popular category, will it be published quicker?

Thanks!

I don't think so. Laurel seems to go in order submitted. I think the only reason category would affect lead time would be a glut in a category.

My experience has been less popular categories take longer to be uploaded.

I've noticed a difference in time since I've started submitting in .RTF format instead of just cutting and pasting into the text box. Since I've never found a reliable, consistent way to do that without having to completely reformat the whole story once I paste, it's been a time savings for me, even if it means a day or two extra. Granted, my own experience may be unique and you already know this.

No. There are numerous reasons for delays. Lit tries to post a variety of categories each day; a glut of stories in one category will delay some of those stories.

Multiple chapters posted at once will delay all chapters, but later chapters more than earlier ones; the default is one chapter/day but you can request a slower release. Multiple chapters will generally be all approved before the first posts; that adds time to the approval process.

Long stories posted in one block will take longer to approve due to the simple mechanics of reading/skimming more text.

New authors get closer scrutiny than previously published authors. Some authors will always get closer (longer) scrutiny because they consistently push the limits.

Maybe, but probably not. Story submissions go into a FIFO queue and are evaluated in the order submitted; not every story is immediately approved, and I surmise those requiring more thought or scrutiny go into a secondary queue of some sort.

Considering all of the potential delays, it is actually surprising that anything gets approved. Some categories may seem to be "less popular" because it is harder to get a story approved.
