Stories based on real life

Enough times that I know, but readers may not always realise a story is not all fiction. But then, readers will also think something that is completely fictional is a true recount. It makes no difference to a story's reception, though, if you don't announce it.

How often do you find yourself writing stories based on real life events,
As of today (and based on published works, not works in progres), 42% of the time (10 out of 24 works, excluding the “cheat sheet” explaining which elements are real in the 10).

About half start out based on a real-life experience, or a fantasy as a hormone-raged teenager, and then the fiction kicks in and goes from there.

How often do you find yourself writing stories based on real life events, with only minimal fictionalizing? I’ve found it’s a good way to… confess? For lack of a better word ❤️❤️❤️

I have a couple of stories that are fictionalized depictions of real events:

1990 uses real-world events from that year, woven into the story as backdrops for the action of the characters.
Our Love Saga uses the real-life relationship of people I know but is fictionalized to protect their identity.

My "Before They Were Stars" series are fictionalized tales using real people. Many of the details about the particular woman are factual.

Many readers believe my few incest stories are real, but that says more about them than my writing techniques.

I’ll read a true story over a fictional one, every time. It’s so much easier to put myself into the appropriate character role when it’s real.

I wonder if readers would guess which of my stories are totally true (with a bit of anonymisation and smoothing over boring bits), half true, vs pure fiction?

(shameless attempt to drive more views!)

I'll give you a clue: I'm not, nor have I ever been, an immortal hellbeing.

As I've noted before, readers have occasionally picked out the only real part of my stories as what they don't find believable in them.

Would you admit it if you were?

But what's "real" on Literotica and how do you get duped into believing it is?
I take them at their word. If I get “duped” into believing a story was real when it wasn’t, I’m not super concerned. Although one must always be ready for that which is written is not true.

I wonder many, like I do, start with a kernel of real life then turn to 'a what if?' Instead to the people going their separate ways, something more happens. I have one story like that.

When my Stormwatch series talks about events in Josh Gravley's military career, those are actual event that happened to USAF weapons guys. His incident on an AC-130 gunship came from gunners I worked for and worked with. I didn't put their whole story in my story, my readers would never believe it. John Levitow is the only enlisted man in the USAF to get the Medal of Honor and his story reads like a dark fantasy. I used a little bit of happened to John in my story. When Don Campbell was air-evac'ed from the middle east to Germany for emergency surgery in We're a Wonderful Wife, that actually happened to me. Also, I use actual locations in my stories. like in the Stormwatch series and the military bases in We're a Wonderful Wife.

Didn't he throw a flare out of the plane before it went off, saving the others on broad. What is the dark fantasy part of it?

Most of mine have a little something from real life, but none of them are fully reality-based. (Oh, how I wish!!)
