Stop Bumping Old Threads!

Laurel's going to combine some of the smaller threads and to let her know if it continues.

What're you trying to do?

At this juncture let's put it this way, my ignore button is engaged, Captain. All I see are old threads.

Oh. Derp. read THEN post.

[hijack=]

I'm totally digging the new AV.

[/hijack]

And ditto for the ignore function. I'd be blissfully and completely unaware of his posting habits if it wasn't for folks talking about him so much.
Though it did allow me to document this for the sake of the argument.

Wow, if only I had the time and energy...
-This is ambition for you.

The last time I checked this was simply an internet discussion board. It isn't like we are solving world peace here. So what if people bump old threads or someone makes 30 new threads in a day? Honestly, get out from behind the monitor and embrace 3-D life.

Um... hi. I started bumping a few old threads that happen to actually involve interesting topics and discussions to try and offer something to read, think about, and discuss other than the current drama. There are some seriously kick ass threads (and posters) from years ago that can still offer interesting, insightful, meaningful discussion... if you want a healthy, thriving, interesting forum - engage in the threads and discussions encouraging that sort of forum; bump old threads and/or add to the discussion. There are plenty of people around here who have never really gotten to read ShadowsDream, or ADR, or RJMasters, or much of AA's thoughts, much less Francisco's or Shank's or Eviktar, or BlueSugar, or Cimbidia, or Ebonyfire, or SawMan...

There are better things to do than feed the drama.
There are better things to do than offer attention.

Agreed. Why bother running this guy out of town? If you don't like him and he makes you this upset, put him on ignore.

Doesn't stop all the threads about him, though.

So don't read them either. And if it's really irritating to see threads about him, then consider using Firefox with the thread-nuker that's in Stella's sig line.

It's not rocket science, people.

I'm not. It's just the fact that you can't find anything else on the front page because of him and his drivel and the crap that keeps being posted about him. Well, that and the rash of spam threads.

Also, I hate Firefox. None of the various plugins work with Opera.

I've missed 95% of the drama by putting him on ignore so I'm afraid that I can't really feel your pain. I don't use Firefox either any longer as I've switched over to Chrome.

I don't think there's so much a problem with posting 30 new threads in a day, it's posting 30 new threads in 20 minutes that I have an issue with. Especially when they don't really envoke a conversation.

but that's just me, and I don't pay attention to his stuff anymore. I hate circular logic.

Keep in mind, it takes resources to post a message. It takes up space and bandwidth to make a topic. And it drains that from the server, which is why SPAM is discouraged regardless of ignore features.
Twenty three topics in thirty minutes isn't anything to sneeze at on the resource side, given how spacious his posts are. Not to mention bumping those every so often would only cause a bottleneck in traffic as they're mass-bumped.

Heh, Lit, especially the BDSM area, has always been home to drama. It's what drove cymbidia and others out during one purge period.

But after reading this thread at least I know what's going on. I got all excited seeing old names in threads until I realized these were only old threads being bumped.

And more to the point, they disrupt the public space. It's offensive to the community, like seeing a walmart go up where the town park used to be.

Yes, but that's only to the people who don't ignore him. :p

Though I haven't bumped any old threads, I can say with complete honesty that I have enjoyed reading them. I miss some of our more prolific posters and it sucks that this board (which used to be my home) is so filled with drama. It has gotten to the point where I don't even try to post unless I find something that calls my attention and (for the most part) none of the newer threads have managed to do that in months.

*shrugs*

Whooped De Dooooooohh! It's like having a town crazy running through every ten minutes, nude except for shaving cream mittens, scuba fins and a tube sock on his dick, preaching the gospel of Gummi Worms!

I like the absurd, so post away, Mr. Beloved!

That was a mental image I never needed...

Very true. I admire those that manage to persist. I go for a bit, get fed up, take a break, wander back in looking all sheepish, etc.

Places like Fetlife aren't any better though. I think it's a "feature" of the medium.

Um... not really. The amount of space and bandwidth messages on a message board take is pretty damned minimal (I mean, you need to type a fair amount even just to hit 1kb). You can run a message board off a single PC, provided you stick to just text.

Now if he was spamming us with video, that'd be a different story!

I think the issue with spamming is more about flooding a discussion board with crap so people decide they don't really want to use it any more. So it's more about the human bandwidth.

If someone is causing trouble for ill mannered means, then I am sorry. However, I don't understand the problem with old posts being brought back. Some of you have been on lit for years, and you are the ones who get your knickers twisted, but for those of us who have not been on that long, we enjoy the old posts too. Especially when we get chastized for asking a question or posting an idea on a topic there's an old post for. In short, I fear that we can never win with some of you. :)

It depends on whether the old thread is interesting, and if you/everyone can add something new and interesting to it, I think.

I think most of the bumped threads were pretty interesting then. I can see why constant bumping would be bad, but that usually isn't too big of a problem here. And especially now that most of the active threads are actually one big, giant thread with only one topic going on I think it's nice to see some older threads bumped.
