Stop Banner Ads?

Does anyone know of a free program that will stop banner ads? The computer we're getting them on has Win98, and we're using either Opera or IE.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yup, stop using IE and Opera, and get Firefox Then you can add on an extension to the browser called AdBlock

Then you can also start to really enjoy the net with a quality browser

There are also quite a few free popup blockers on download.com, you merely have to search for "popup blocker" or "popup stopper." I personally use the Firefox browser so popups aren't a problem.

Thanks. I don't have a problem with popups, I just wanted to get rid of banner ads. I simply was asking for recommendations on programs because even with the download.com reviews, you never know. I did find a free combo program called All-in-one Secretmaker that appears to have gotten rid of all of the banners, including the Opera ads.
As for the browsers, cyberski, I only use IE when it's absolutely necessary. I like Opera a lot and haven't had any problems, and I do use firefox as well, depending on what I'm doing.

I use AdSubtract. Many years ago there was a free version.

I think I actually upgraded to the basic pay-for version many 3 years back, and I've been getting updates (though infrequent) without any problems ever since.

There are supposed to be better "combo" packages that stop lots more than ads (like hijackers) but I've not investigated.
