Stirring a hornets nest is obviously not a good idea and I am clearly guilty of that. My "Moved threads" didn't just get moved as political - It was closed by Laurel, closed, no reason given - none expected.

That is fair enough. I have thought for some time that Laurel should exercise her editorial capacity more vigorously, so can hardly complain if she does. I'll content myself with the notion that I was naive collateral damage with respect to something (unknown) going on in the background.:D

So Laurel, on balance, I hope you continue to kick the asses of various posters when you think it is necessary. Move 'em to politics, close 'em down, ban a few posters from time to time. Even be a bit unfair, the resultant moral outrage makes good entertainment.

My only hope is that you wield your big stick with consistent vigour across all the Boards. Having established the precedent (correctly) of moving political threads from the AH it would be good to see the same standard applied to the GB which is littered with political threads.

PS. In 2008, I started a blatantly political thread on the AH. It ran for ages with page after page of responses, and Ah'rs seemed to enjoy it. Now however , it would be a neat idea to dump it, close it, move it or whatever, before some clown digs it up again. If my memory is correct the thread title was just "Sarah Palin."

I'd say the exchange happening between others is what got the thread closed up -- not your OP. Once the back-and-forth sniping at each other starts, that's when the closed sign comes out.

Thank you for the feedback! :rose:

The Author's Hangout was made as a place for authors to hangout, to find and give support and help, to discuss writerly things, and also to socialize generally. To this end, the boundaries of discussion are really wide. But in response to widespread concern about the increasingly vitriolic atmosphere in the AH over the last couple of years, we've added one extra rule to the AH (here).

You can still all debate, argue, pontificate, and pummel each other with logic, illogic, facts, wit, and humor. What you can't do is personally insult, name-call, accuse, libel, or flame each other.

The General Board is the least moderated forum by design. While all the other forums have a specific focus, the GB does not. Therefore, a wider range of posting is allowed there. It is a place for posts that have no place - and naturally has also developed a community of its own, just like the AH, the Playground, the roleplay boards, and so on.

The Political board is a new addition. We are allowing political posting in the General Board because it is still a "General" place - just as we allow discussions of GLBT issues there even though we have a dedicated GLBT forum. However, the moderated targeted forums are allowed to move explicitly political threads (that is, those about political parties, politicians, and political news) to the Political forum. Threads about social issues that may have political overtones will stay in the AH. The goal is to be as light-handed with the moderation as possible.

The goal is to keep the forum generally on target, and to encourage writers to hang out, make friends, brainstorm, and write. :rose:
