Stimulus Package - Debate & Discussion

Five pages, and the only thing that even remotely resembles an argument in favor of the stimulus plan is

Which isn't even true, as the link so graciously provided shows down toward the bottom.

Bullshit. What you are referring to are criticisms. Of course Keynesian economics is controversial, just like every other school of economics is controversial; but it has by no means been discredited the way the concept of luminiferous aether or phologiston-based combustion has been discredited.

Obama is a liar. It's a fact. What's frightening is the people who voted for him aren't saying a damn thing. Fucking pathetic.

"We are going to ban all earmarks, the process by which individual members insert projects without review."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28525113/

Of course he's a liar. That's been obvious since 2004 when it was also obvious that he would be running for president in 2008.

I still hope he pulls out of this swoon. He is our President. If he just rolls over for Pelosi, we'll have her to contend with until we can get her voted out of office (if she'll allow voting).

'As I posted on another thread a few weeks ago Polosi and Harry Reed will use Obama like a $2 whore.
Harry and Nancy will use his lack of experience, navete, and his socialist idals to their and his socialist agenda. While the Messiah may wish something a little different the Congress will whip his ass into shape.

The new "stimulus bill will cost about $885 Billion and the $350 or so Billion in interest and you have over a TRILLION DOLLARS in debt. Do you know how much a TRILLION is? Try a 1 followed by 12 zeros. Thus.$1,000,000,000,000.00. Of that trillion about 70 Billion is allocated to "INFRASTRUCTURE"
Well less then 4% of the total.

So folks bend over as far as you can place your head as far between yout legs as you can and KISS YOUR ASS GOOD BY. The next news you will hear will equate the Unite States Of America with Somalia.

*snicker*

How about if I equate this entire post to that of a fourth-grader's writing level?

So, here are some specific things the GOP will not condone, in this bill they’re not going to vote for, anyway:

* A billion dollars extra for the 2010 U.S. Census, which is going to pay good money to many jobless people in every American town — and shore up Lockheed-Martin, which is getting $500 million to build the data systems and run the machinery.

* $75 million for FBI employee salaries, because why would you want to pay America’s top cops to do law enforcement and investigations, in America?

* $500 million for Mississippi River flood control projects, which would employ thousands of laborers and keep dozens of construction companies in business, because nothing makes Republicans happier than seeing a Katrina repeat on the teevee every other hurricane season.

* $200 million for green vehicles on U.S. military bases and $600 million to replace the federal fleet of cars with hybrids, because only a gay communist could see the economic benefits of $800 million in sales for U.S. auto manufacturers while simultaneously cutting the government’s gasoline bill by billions per year.

* $1.4 billion for rural garbage-disposal and recycling programs, because who but an Islamo-Fascist would want to provide much-needed jobs for the Red State countryside while keeping toxic garbage out of those people’s drinking water?

* $125 million to rebuild the broken, rotten, third-world sewer system of our Nation’s Capital. You give them this, and who knows what they’ll want next! And by “give,” we mean “pay a decent wage to laborers in D.C., to rebuild their sewers.”

* $6 billion to pay dozens of big regional contractors, hundreds of local businesses and tens of thousands of American workers to retrofit federal buildings so that they’ll be energy efficient.

* $200 million for computer centers at community colleges, because if poor unskilled workers want to “learn the computer,” they should just go to Stanford instead of complaining.

So the Republicans are all for a good Economic Stimulus bill, meaning one that would stop taxing the rich and stop any corporate taxes and also, somehow, further ruin the environment and whatever.

As a result of this clear “small government” philosophy the big-spending corporate-welfare closeted homosexuals adopted last week, GOP congressional leaders have found the parts they just can’t tolerate in the Economic Stimulus legislation: the parts that would create jobs and build American infrastructure.

Look, whatever anybody’s uninformed opinions about this Rescue the Economy package, you should at least be able to reconcile “support for economic stimulus legislation” with “support for legislation that will throw a bunch of money at the economy, in the form of money paid for goods and services, manufacturing and labor, and other traditional uncontroversial gears of Capitalism.”

Unless you're a Republican. Or a "Not Republican". Then you have your marching orders from Rush and Hannity. The Democrats MUST fail.. Who was going on about being in lockstep the other day?

You forgot to mention that all contracts will be publicly bid on and fully transparent via the website recovery.gov. Also there will be watchdogs for corruption hired to head up every section of the stimulus package who will answer to everyone from a commitee in congress to whistleblowers (which are protected) to normal US citizens about concerns with a project. Also there are hard caps on all administration costs so the projects cant be looted by the people in charge.

I think the 'pubs are pissed off that they can't just hand contracts to halliburton and blackwater anymore. :D

All potential contracts and contracts are already publically available through several different means. This is not a change. I get emails daily on potential contracts and have for years.

All of them except for the nice, cushy, no-bid ones. You know the ones, like those that went to Halliburton and Blackwater?

I'm beginning to wonder if you pay attention to much at all outside of what Rush, Hannity, Coulter, et. al. tell you..

Trying to take Cap'n Oblivious' title?

The question really is this the best way to stimulate the economy.

From what I've read, the answer is a resounding no and I have to agree with them.

But seriously, that's not what Nancy thought?

I don't know what Nancy thought. Personally I think she's an idiot.

I just think there are a lot of problems with the stimulus bill and I wouldn't vote for it if I were in Congress.

Kill This Porkosaurus

by Ted Nugent
02/03/2009

I’m a hunter, and proud of it. Most of my best hours are spent in the field, sometimes chasing dangerous game. I’m on the track of one, a bigger more dangerous critter than I’ve ever hunted before: the Obama-Pelosi Porkosaurus.

The Porkosaurus is plenty dangerous by itself. It subsidizes unemployment by increasing unemployment benefits. And, as the man said, when you subsidize something you get more of it. It doesn’t spend anything -- not one thin dime -- on the one thing that economists say is guaranteed to stimulate the economy, defense spending. And its whole purpose is to feed Fedzilla and make it grow even bigger, swallowing our economy whole.

In a crisis, hysterical, wrongheaded, ignorant people will squall and holler to "do something." Reasonable people with a modicum of intellect know that throwing a cinder block to a drowning person qualifies as "something", but surely it is the wrong something.

Amazingly, some of these same reasonable people continue to look to Fedzilla to solve the financial crisis that this bloated beast created. Result: America is drowning in unsustainable mountains of debt and deficits and threatening to do more of the same. President Obama and his Democratic cronies on Capital Hill want to pile on more debt and more deficits that will further destroy the US economy.

President Obama and Nancy Pelosi's trillion-dollar Porkosaurus bill will fail miserably at creating new jobs and reversing our economic kamikaze swan dive. The bill is weighed down by irresponsible, ineffective, wasteful spending which is the status quo in Washington DC.

It is not just President Obama who wants to feed the grossly obese Fedzilla. President Bush fed Fedzilla mountains of our tax dollars, too. According to the Wall Street Journal, during his tenure America witnessed the largest expansion of Fedzilla spending since Lyndon Johnson's Great Society boondoggle. Many of the Republican House and Senate members voted in support of expanding Fedzilla. They deserve to get tossed out of power.

But now President Obama is in charge of feeding Fedzilla and he has wasted no time in advocating a trillion-dollar pork dinner for The Beast. The menu of spending items is the most irresponsible pile of pork in the history of our country.

In a January 28 op-ed the Wall Street Journal did an outstanding job of identifying the waste in Pork-stimulus. The following are a couple of shameful examples.

There is one billion for Fedzilla's railroad, Amtrak. Shamtrack, as I call it, has not been profitable for decades, and probably never will be. The Shamtrack Xpress to financial hell should be derailed.

$400 million more of our tax dollars are scheduled to be wasted on the global-warming scam of the century. Here's how we save this cash: We agree the earth warms and cools. We admit that warming and cooling is a naturally occurring cycle that has to do with the sun and that there is nothing we can do about it. We admit Al Gore is a fraud and a global warming Ponzi-schemer. Then we take back Al's Grammy and documentary award.

$81 billion will be wasted on feeding Medicaid. Give me one week with some smart, savvy business people and we will come up with a private-sector, cost effective, efficient health care program that does not include Fedzilla and its gluttonous unaccountable tax dollar bonfire.

$66 billion is scheduled to be fed to Fedzilla's Department of Lack of Education. We can save this cash by parents just checking their child's homework and cutting the cords to computer and video games.

$83 billion more will be spent on providing earned income credit for people who do not pay taxes. I am all for earned income. No one gets a dime unless you earn it.

$54 billion is scheduled to be overtly wasted on Fedzilla programs that Fedzilla's very own Office of Management and Budget or the Government Accounting Office has labeled as "ineffective" and can not pass a financial audit. There is no accountability. None.

According to the Wall Street Journal, only about twelve cents of every dollar in the trillion-dollar Pork-stimulus will jump start the economy and create new jobs. I trust the WSJ much more than I do President Obama or Nancy Pelosi.

As I outlined in my book, TED WHITE & BLUE-The Nugent Manifesto, the way out of this economic mess is permanent tax cuts across the board. Find a tax and slash it at least in half. This will ignite the fuel of private industry and will instantly create new jobs and yank us out of the economic abyss in months, not years.

Along with tax cuts, Fedzilla spending should be slashed by 25 percent. Imagine how the stock market would instantly respond to that bold, new approach.

It is now up the Senate to do what is right for America and kill the Porkosaurus. I beg of them not to throw a concrete block to drowning Americans and call it a life preserver.

Rock legend Ted Nugent is noted for his conservative political views and his vocal pro-hunting and Second Amendment activism. His smash bestseller Ted, White & Blue: The Nugent Manifesto, is now available at www.amazon.com. Nugent also maintains the Official Ted Nugent Site at www.TedNugent.com.

Nancy Pelosi IS dumber than soap.

She, and the other libs, are in such a hurry to try to scare Americans into swallowing their $1 trillion dollar pork-laden earmark bill, that they their rhetoric is out of control.

Pelosi says “Every Month we don't pass the economic stimulus bill, 500 Million Americans Lose Their Jobs”

In the U.S. today, the population is 305 MILLION.
That accounts for every man, woman, child and even illegal aliens.
