Stills from WMV or AVI files?

Does anyone know of a free- or shareware utility to capture stills from either of these types of video files?

I have a package for DVD stills (from VOB files), but it doesn't work for WMV or AVI.

I use AL Show by ESTsoft. It has a screen capture function.

My Windows Movie Maker works fine for that. They come out a bit grainy, though.
