So, Spurrier is in as the new Redskin's coach. Does anyone want to bet that Washington will have a winning season next year? I believe Steve will have a rough way to go in the NFL.

Who will be the new coach in Tampa?

I will bet no. Marty would have.

Bill Parcels. And they will win.

My sources tell me that the Redskins' quarterback position is all sewn up tight.

Dan Snyder.

Only problem is, all he can seem to do is scramble. His team is third and long, and this guy scrambles. :(

You know, that may very well be the way of the future for NFL QBs. Looks like most teams are going for the scrambling qbs with a decent arm.

I think the Buc's treatment of Dungy was disgraceful. But, if they hire Parcels they will be getting a coach who is as big an asshole as the owners are.

Did anyone hear that Troy Aikman could be the new QB in Miami? Fiedler is a free agent next year and Aikman's name as come up as his possible replacement.

If Aikman comes back, he's dumber than I thought. All he needs is another concussion.

Fiedler should get the hell out of Miami for sure. He showed absolutely nothing against Baltimore. But then again, not many have.

Lavy, are you a Redskins fan or are there other reasons that you hate him?

I agree with you.

We've got two of them here in this area, with Snyder and Peter Angelos of the Orioles. It doesn't take long for a meglomaniacal team owner to destroy a proud franchise. He's in way over his head and is dissing some very good people.

Jerry is well down that road. He has absolutely no skill at evaluating talent and he's too stubborn to hire somebody to do it for him.

I am a Cowboy fan in spite of Jerry Jones. I am a Yankee fan is spite of George Stienbrenner. My two favorite teams are stuck with the the worst owners in pro sports.

Yes, but Steinbrenner is at least smart enough to hire a great Manager (Torre). Jerry Jones had a pretty good Coach but like Steinbrenner, can't get along with someone who knows more than himself.

My sympathies.

No way. Yes, in the 70s and 80s, Steinbrenner was a fool. Today, he's surrounded himself with brilliant baseball people, who he mostly listens to. He has transformed himself from the most hated man in NY to one of the most popular. I would much rather have him as an owner that Peter Angelos or Jerry Colangelo.

One of the best T-shirts I ever saw said...

"Will Rogers never met Steve Spurrier"

As a native to the DC area and lifelong avid Redskin (keep the name dammit! Political Correctness is running amok!)fan, I am mixed on the hiring of Spurrier. While I love the possibility of once again having an exciting offense (been waiting for one since Joe G went south), I thought Marty did an excellent job at the end of the season. He offensive scheme was very vanilla, but his quarterback sucked. There is a reason Tony Banks has been with 4 teams in 3 years. Stephen Davis' talents were not exploited until the end of the year, either. Marty is a proven NFL winner. Spurrier hasn't won squat at this level. I really hope Mr. Snyder allows the football people to do their job. His meddling in personnel decisions has been nothing less than catastrophic (see Deion Sanders). I hope Spurrier does well and actually gets to fulfill his entire contract and I hope Marty gets another job soon - he deserves it after the turn around he engineered this year.

It took a suspension from team operations to smarten Steinbrenner up. I could forgive a lot if he would just shut up about moving the team from the Bronx and commit to keeping the Yanks in "the House that Ruth built".

I hate Spurrier with a passion... what an ass. But he is a winner, I'll give him that (course it's not hard when you have the best recruits every year). I think he'll definitely whip the Foreskins into shape (yeah I'm from DC, but that doesn't mean I particularly like the Redskins, at least I don't hate them like Florida or Half-ass-U for that matter). The only way Spurrier doesn't have a winnning season is if there are QB problems (injuries, etc.). I predict they'll go like 10-6 (9-7 worst case, 11-5 best case). I think they might even make the playoffs... but probably get knocked out in the first round.

No way will he whip them into shape! Marty did, that's why they won at the end, especially when he let it be known he'd fire mal-contents.

Spurrier has already been quoted using the analogy, you don't have soldiers shoot at each other every day, or some similar ilk.

No, next years 'skins will be soft until Spurrier learns the hardest lesson. Soldiers need discipline, millionaire footballs players need discipline, and children need discipline. Once he realizes that his players, for the most part, are no more mature than his college players, he'll crack down.
