Yesterday a friend at work told me that King will no longer write another book. This is obviously bad news for those people,(like me,)that are waitng patiently for him to finish The Dark Tower Series. You don't just write half a book, and, suddenly stop. That's WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like making 5 of the Star Wars movies, and, George saying, "That's it." I'm not making the 6th. I could see if he didn't finish it because he dies, but, if his health isn't a problem, then, FINISH THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calm down nasty! Unless and until that kind of info comes from a more reliable source than 'a person at work'... I'd count on King to not only finish the Dark Tower series, but keep on writing for a good long time.

I've met the man, and writing is more important to him than breathing.

That isn't exactly the case. King is still contractually obligated for a few more books, and finishing up a miniseries, and who knows how many television/movie projects. However, once those obligations are met, he claims that he will retire. Hopefully, Dark Tower is one of those obligations.

Actually, my friend read it in the newspaper. That's pretty reliable. Forgot to mention that. I just hope it was a joke.

Not to worry....

From the "Rumors" section of Stephen King's own website:

"Is it true that he has retired?

That hasn't happened yet. There are still books coming out through both Scribner and Pocket Books and plans to complete The Dark Tower series, so there will be new books for several more years to come. "

Whoops - didn't see that you'd already posted it, KillerMuffin...

I'll guess I shouldn't be so trustworthy. I thought it sounded like bullshit, but, I caouldn't be certain.

The Weekly World News is NOT a newspaper! :D

He said in an interview that his Dark Tower series may never get done. I certainly hope that is not true as I am an addict to Roland.

As for Dark Tower..

I think it's"The Great American Novel".

I think it's what he said about it in the introduction...that the story haunts him. I don't think he can ignore & deny the story. He won't have any peace until he's told it.

I think him giving up writing would be like all of us giving up this site.

You have met Stephen King?Cool!

I don't think Roland will let King retire from The Dark Tower..

As to retiring from writing..

I'm an amateur writer, I have my slow periods.. But anyone who writes, knows one simple fact. You cannot stop. Once you've opened that font within yourself, it never stops flowing permanantly. He may try to retire, but sooner or later, he'll find himself pen in hand, or hands at keyboard, writing again.

The sad thing is the books would sell, just like all those new "VC Andrews" books continue to sell at a decent clip. Strange world we live in. I don't think King would let that happen, though.

Even after Stephen King dies, I bet he still comes out with new stories.

Oh, I didn't actually mean copyrighted name vc andrews style... I meant that they will publish all the books he wrote and was too embarrased to publish. I bet you he has quite a few.
