Another idea I had though this one I've had for a while. Essentially, a young man or woman hasn't spoken to their sister in years, suddenly finds him or herself on hard times and needs to find a place to stay. It's about that time that their sister suddenly walks back into the picture with an invitation to stay with her. The sibling finds that their sister is loaded but also very lonely and wants their companionship. Things seem to work out but then the sister asks if her sibling might help with some experiments.
the sibling then finds out that their sister is a genius scientist but also very eccentric and extremely sexually frustrated.
It could go goofy or dark at this point, either with the sister having her siblings try out weird experiments or creations ("behold the visible invisible clothing. The clothing which lets everyone see you naked while you personally see yourself in a pair of jeans and a comfortable t-shirt") or trying to get payback for being ostracized.
Additionally, I had another twist where a young woman's mother get remarried to the scientist's father and has to spend the honeymoon with her new step sister. Once again being more silly or dark (the main character packs a lunch for the day and accidentally packs what appears to be jello...only to find that it is a sentient blob that wakes up after being taken from the fridge and breaks down plastics and clothing...at a pool party she was attending)
Over all though, the main idea is just mad scientist sister causes problems for her sibling or step sibling so I would love to hear whatever spins on the idea you have.
