Hey, anthro writers: as long as you don't mention that Willie's alter ego is a mouse who goes by a nickname for "Michael", you could do a story about the public domain character Steamboat Willie, couldn't you?

I thought Willie was a steamboat, not an anthro... :p

"not simple"

as this video points out, among other things, trademark law is tricky.
and rumour has it that Disney loves to sue...or, maybe a better way to put it is that they seem to be well aware that if you don't defend your IP, you risk losing protection.

I don't think Laurel would publish anything that even smells like a Disney title.
I was wondering as I wrote my post whether she had, and if so, whether she got a cease and desist letter. One website suggests that Disney litigates mostly against large commercial entities, and tries to scare off others with cease and desist. Wondered which category Literotca would be in.
Mot that I'd want to be the writer who gets named in anything...

You could probably write a story about an anthro mouse who captains a riverboat. Perhaps call him George and have him wear blue coveralls.
