Steak

My brother-in-law can't have a slice of tomato in his mouth without gagging and dry-heaving like a spaz. He can be quite theatrical about it, especially if he bites into a sandwich that he requested sans tomato, and forgot to flip the top to check.

Yet he eats salsa, has catsup on his burgers, and enjoys a robust tomato sauce with pasta. He says it is a texture thing.

I have a friend who is the same way, she doesn't like the texture.

Tomatoes are even more disgusting than rare steaks.

I am the same with tomato and mushrooms of any sort. Mushrooms it's the smell, tomato it's the taste of fresh tomato. Bleh!

I'm devastated - our first dinner was all planned - Eye fillet cooked rare with heavy pepper mushroom sauce, served with a side of warm farro salad (with tomatoes, spinach, and shiitake mushrooms)

:(

Makes perfect sense to me. I'm the same way. Yet cook that same 'mater for a few minutes and problem solved.

is it all uncooked tomatoes or just crappy-assed hot-house, not-actually-summer-yet tomatoes?

For me, it's all uncooked tomatoes. It really is a texture thing with me.

Now THAT one I'll give ya! Totally flavorless, hard, disgusting, vile things! Though one can age them a while on a window sill and they will become red on their own, though still rather flavorless, since it was nipped from the vine too early to have developed the sugars and such.

This thread made me hungry! I like a rib eye - very thick - and I want it charred on the outside and red on the inside. I want it rare enough that a good vet could resuscitate it. As far as seasonings, Montreal Steak Spice and seasoned salt.

But since we're on the topic of tomatoes (BARTENDER! Thread drift! :D ), there is nothing on earth as good as a nice, ripe tomato that you picked out of your own garden. The same goes for cucumbers and corn on the cob.

If I could eat steak 3 meals a day, I'd happily do so. That's my absolute, most favoritest food of all time!

You have a standing invitation to eat at my table any time.

I second that. If I could eat a 12oz filet every day... God. I so would. Throw in a NY strip to keep me honest every once in a while. And then a lobster tail and some scallops when I feel like eating healthy. I would be in heaven.

I never understood the hatred for bbq sauce on a steak.

Does anyone complain about ketchup on a burger? How about mayo on a sandwich?

The bbq sauce, although not always needed, is there to enhance the flavor. It's no different that adding flavor to a burger, sandwich, or even eating chips that have different flavors on it.

To me, the only major no-no regarding a steak, besides overcooking it, is when people slice it up and put it on top of a salad. Salad is great on the side, but why-oh-why cut the steak and put it on a top?

The question is: Why bother with a steak with bbq sauce when it does taste like a sandwich with bbq sauce or a burger with bbq sauce because you only taste the bbq sauce anyway?

Bar-B-Que sauce is to a good steak, what Vajazzle* is to a fine vah-ghine.

Nonessential, but there are always some that endorse the unnecessary.

I thought I was the only one not to like uncooked tomatoes!
Yet, fry them to a pulp with salted butter and lots of black pepper and the suddemly become very good eating.
Peppered steak medium rare, with fried tomatoes and good chunky chips (fries) best food invented.

I don't eat a lot of red meat, but do enjoy the occasional steak.

A good steak should be a nice, choice cut. Those lesser cuts can go for stews and chillies.

Rub a little olive oil, season with some oregano, salt, and pepper. Grill to a beautiful medium, medium rare.

NEVER put Bar-B-Q sauce on a good steak. You might as well put Ketchup (Catsup) on your oatmeal.

I like mine grilled medium rare, with a dash of salt, pepper, garlic powder &, onion powder. Along with a nice wine, i'm all good!

A nice thick Rib Eye marinated in nothing but soy sauce at room temp for at least 10 hours. and grilled 5 - 6 minutes to a side.. med rare no need for anything else but a good baked potato and a salad

So unAmerican.

"Bloody BBQs" actually has two meanings - so not very skippy either. With Rainshine's approach, how can you tell the difference between the charcoal and steak
