Yesterday our local TV news announced that:

Britain has the highest number of teenage mothers per 100,000 births in Europe. I didn't catch the exact figures but I think Britain had 40% of Europe's total teenage mothers.

The County of Kent has the highest number of teenage mothers per 100,000 births in Britain.

The town of Maidstone has the highest number of teenage mothers per 100,000 births in Kent.

The Parkwood housing estate in Maidstone has the highest number of teenage mothers per 100,000 births in Europe, Britain, Kent and Maidstone.

Of course, in the UK sex and marriage is legal at 16 but many of the Parkwood mothers had babies before their 16th birthday.

I would like to add some comments but I think the statistics say it all.

Does this mean there will be a sudden move of men to Kent?

I suspect the statistics are askewed a little, Og. More likely the story meant "Per Capita" rather than real numbers. Unfortunately it's hard to tell. But my thoughts are that these statistics are not right.

Britain has had more teenage mothers than the rest of Europe for a while. I've never understood it, it's not as though Britain's a Catholic country, and they all know about birth control.

The figures are number of births to teenage mothers as a percentage of all births, except the total figure for Europe. The UK has about 40% of all teenage births for Europe, way out of line with our proportion of Europe's population.

The teenage birth rate is down in America from years past. Though, it is still five times higher than that of France and four times higher than Germany. Not sure how we compare to the UK.

The county I live in has always had a high rate of teenage mothers. It's not uncommon here to run into thirty-two year old grandmothers. It's become a pattern for a lot of families. When I had my first child at 26 years of age, a lot of people I went to high school with had kids that were well into grade school.

On tuesday, my SO's fifteen year old niece gave birth to a little girl. It's not difficult for us to see that this kid will probably be raised for the most part by her grandparents and aunts and uncles. It's just a good thing that the baby and mother have a good family support system, I can't imagine how it is for children who don't have this.

I can't find the report on which the TV news item was based. I might have done but I can't get access to National Health Service statistical data directly.

This gives some information:
A report

One of the sites said 'The UK has the worst record of developed countries AFTER THE US..."

This is what happens when your whole country is controlled by Liberals. It's a "a child can do whatever they want" kind of attitude. I blame all the Labour supporters myself. Let's face it there’s no stigma attached to teenage pregnancy anymore plus if you were allowed to beat the shit out of your daughter if you caught her with her knickers down she wouldn't be so quick to repeat it.

I bet you wanked yourself off when you posted that

It might also reflect reduction of funding for family planning clinics and in the US the idea that condoms should be replaced by continence...

So what explains the London Times statistic that shows lowered birth rates in Ireland (a Catholic country) which they claim is a result of "better access to information and condoms"?

Another thought, I'm wondering if the Teen Birth Rate has any relationship of total birth rates by country?

NORPLANT.

Yeah.... it's going to be a requirement for any trollop wanting to date my boys.

They are too damn gorgeous not to get slammed by th elittle bints, and too very male to turn down a pair of open legs, so...

NORPLANT.

And I'm just going to have to buy stock in Trojan...

*sighs* Truthfully, I'll probably be the raving bitch mother that runs off every girl who so much as blinks at them, and they'll need therapy... but I'd rather they had issues than AIDS.

Now there's an interesting point. For a long time AIDS was in the news almost daily. There was a great awareness of the danger. Now you never hear a word about AIDS at all. The conception is the desease is under control and no long a threat. It's sad.

So Joe displayed the garment. You claimed it was cut to your fit, retrieval. No insult can affect you until you accept it.

I have no idea what point your trying to make.

Some of that is a bit of a stretch, I imagine. I don't doubt the County figures, or perhaps the town, but comparing rates per 100,000 births at the level of a housing estate isn't very fair. Obviously, it would take a long time to have 100,000 births, I don't care how much wood gets parked there. So, if there are only 50 teenage girls in the estate, each of them that has a baby is going to have a very large impact on the comparative rate.

I once knew a man from Kent....

Hmmm.......whatever happened to a good ol' rubber? That's the advice that my grandfather gave my dad (to my dad's horror, I might add- he was very upset with his father for giving him such unbiblical counsel) when he thought that my dad might become sexually active. Looking back, I have to agree with my grandfather. He was a father looking out for his son's best interests. Too bad my dad is too blinded by religious fanaticism to realize that. It's the advice that I'd give my son, if I had one. And I would insist that any boy who wanted my daughters agree to use rubbers until they at least graduate from high school. Preferably a couple of years of college or the military too. Marriage has nothing to do with it. I want them to have a future.

Last weekend I was walking and geocaching through this state park. The name of the cache was called "Lover's Lane;" appropriately, the lane I was walking was beautiful and tree-lined, the tree-tops meeting overhead to form a sort of tunnel. As I walked this "lane," I came across three used condoms and three matching opened Trojan packets.

At least someone was being smart while utilizing Lover's Lane.

No statistic to report, though it would be interesting to know how often that lane is used for sexual activities, illicit or otherwise.

Don't worry, neither does he. ;)
I think he was implying that Retrieval took the bait when I said that his original post about pulling his daughter's knickers down and spanking her bottom ("beating the shit out of her") revealed that he had sadistic incest fantasies

Uh, double standard alert, double standard alert!
