State Of The Union

Am I the only one who'd really like a president to go up to that podium look solemnly into the camera and say:

"It's A-OK!" and give a big thumbs up with a goofy grin?

Yes, I have it on.

There are several threads here talking about our opinions of Bush in the month since you've been away. Or did you mean what do we think of his State of the Union address?

His job is impossible.

It's an impossible job for anyone.

He's doing a lot better than I ever thought he would do. I'm impressed by that - and pretty much that alone. I thought he'd really, really suck - big time.

But he's really not. Sucking that is.

And considering the percieved priorties of the moment, which may or may not be our real needs - he seems to be addressing those in a planned and methodical way.

Thus his huge approval rating I would guess.

He's still far short of my ideal image of a US President. But then again - I don't think such a person exists.

His speach was almost exactly what I expected, as are so many State of the Union messages. The outline is obvious at the time of delivery if you watch the leaks in the weak prior.

I didn't expect anything more than what he provided.

BTW, no threads were started yet because most wanted to wait until he was finished to comment.

A non-american's view

<=== I'm english...so what the hell i was doing up at 2am listening on the radio to some texan trying to talk amongst all the clapping and cheering i dont know.

I'd never heard a State of the Union before and I thought it was a pretty good speech... designed to be very jingoistic with adequate pauses for cheering. I understand the importance of this particular speech (who in the western world wouldn't?) and think he did amazingly well...presidential, even.

And no "accentualising" or "stratificationism"... dontcha just love speech writers?
