This maybe very stupid, but im going to do it. Ive been rping for years, about 11 years. But ive been getting more creative, I feel confident that I can write a good story.

But what I need is everyone.

What I mean by that is you guys, who read the stories on here.

What kinds of things make a good story? your tastes.

Development of your characters, concepts, and situations and attention to style are the things that would be at the top of my list. If your story is well-written, it can be about almost anything and it'll engage people, even if it falls outside their preferences. However, bad word choice, other bad stylistic choices, bad grammar, rushing things--bad writing in general--can really pull you out of a story before it has a chance to engage.

Master all of that, and I'll enjoy it. ;)

There are a lot more help where those came from, too.

There's a "market" for everything, even level of quality in writing, but since you're here in the Story Discussion Circle asking, you must want to know what fellow writers want to read (though we're a pretty small fraction of the Literotica reading public!) and I will arrogantly totter out on a limb and proclaim that most would probably enjoy a quality story of almost any type over a poorly constructed one of a preferred genre or fetish.

Good luck. :rose:

Write for yourself, and others will enjoy it as well. If you try to write to please everyone, then you're dooming yourself to failure. You can only serve one master.

Good writing makes a good story. As far as genre, plot, fetish, etc, there is no clear formula for success. Write what gives you tingles and makes you blush in the dark, and you'll find an audience.

I tend to think a good RP is a lot like a good story, except that it's a collaborative effort. The same elements go into it: it wants to be creative and fun; it wants to have characters that people are interested in; it wants to have a plot where things happen, or at least don't happen in a compelling way; it wants to be rewarding for the reader. I would say it should be well written, but after that mess of a sentence, I'd have to shoot myself for hypocrisy.

Thanks very much, Driphoney. I just joined and am writing my first story. These links are incredibly helpful.

Just write. There is/are no rights or wrongs. One can always improve later. Release the story in your heart and improve it as time passes.

Just my thoughts.

Best.

That's really good advice AS. Think I should copy that down and glue it to my vanity mirror. :rose:

Don't worry about pleasing others, at least not in the first draft. Write the story you really want to read but haven't been able to find yet.

This isn't feel-good bullshit either. Writing is hard work without much reward, and the only way to keep going is if your motivation comes from inside, not outside.

Excellent. I'm here because, like OP, I've roleplayed for years but am just now trying to break ground on sexual writing/roleplaying. Literotica's list of writing guides is rather comprehensive, so thanks for plucking those out. "TheEarls" was especially insightful.

I'm still nervous because I'm a newb and I know my stuff wont be too pleasing to anybody, but I guess I can start by pleasing myself. I'm fairly easy to please though.

Its always been within 24 hours of taking the first reminder pill for me. It could take up to three packs of pills for it to become regular first day of the sugar pill though. I'm sure you've got nothing to worry about as long as you really have been taking the pills at the same time every day.

So I am new to this site and an aspiring writer. I tend to find that I write a lot in the way of character base and surroundings before I get to the sexy stuff. I was just wondering if the stories that get published are only the ones that go straight into the sex? Or if a longer, more in depth story will also get published? May sound like a stupid question but I am very self critical and I worry about what people will think of my writing.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

The reasons for not having a story posted are extremely narrow: excessively bad punctuation and spelling (though they fall through the cracks, I've seen nearly unreadable copy get through, and the standard is very low else my own would still be waiting in line!); under 18 sex is absolute; bestiality; and what I think of as unappreciated or unreasonable rape meaning rape fantasies are allowed, rapist fantasies are not.

I don't think I'm leaving anything out, but I might be. After that, everything else is accepted. I'm wondering if you've actually read many of the stories on this site given the nature of your question. Every kind of sex, amount of sex and even lack of sex is allowed. You can see it in the genre titles and in the variety of stories posted on the Top Lists. The Powers That Be don't judge the amount of sexual content.

The biggest thing for me is to make sure you write ALL of the actions that get you from one thing to another. Don't be jumpy, or leave everything for the reader to imagine. It is good to leave some things to imagination (different hair/colors/builds are a turn on for different people), but don't make the action so jumpy that I can't figure out how you got from one position to the other. If you move an arm, finger, leg, etc, then tell it. Let me see your moves through your writing. That is a big help for me when I'm reading something. And one other thing, SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE! Let someone else "check" your piece. There are plenty of volunteer editors who will check your piece, and there are more than enough competent editors on here to do the job. They've seen what "Lit" accepts, and what they don't, and what it takes to get the 4's and the 5's from your readers. Otherwise, write about what makes you happy, or would make you happy if it were to happen. Chances are, someone else will be happy with your writing too!

Thank you for the advice.
I haven't read too many stories as of yet, but I am getting there. Figure I will do a lot more reading, try to awaken my creative spark again. Hopefully, when I actually get around to finishing my two major stories, I will get some positive/helpful opinions.

Definitely think I am going to enjoy this site.

Thank you very much for those links. I have written a few stories in the past but they were anonymous and posted to message board type sites . So my experience is very limited but it sparked a desire within me for more. I have always felt I had a great imagination and a need to tell (write) stories but have been so fearful to get started on it. Fear of failure I suppose. Anyway, I really found those articles helpful and motivating . I really think now I will have the courage to start a story and see where it goes . Thanks so much.
