Heavy flooding in West Bengal means that we will soon be seeing the familiar hands out attitude of the authorities as they say they can't cope with this latest disaster...

Not that they try...

Maybe there could be a telethon all across the vast continent that is the EU. People could call in and pledge money to save the children.:)

Love to, but they'd only end up in the Indian Government's coffers.

As I've said before, after sixty years of self rule, you would have thought that they could start handling things better by now.

They're absolutely hopeless as a government.

But then again it's the usual group of rich kids taking control.

They don't really care about their people.

Especially when we are all too willing to grease their palms with 'charity' money.

They are such an intellignet people p_p_man, it's not as if they have these floods all the time. Surely they wouldn't keep living in a flood plane!

Not this time.

Before Bush came on the scene with his own particular brand of incompetence I had been known to save some of my best venom for the Indian Government and their pretence at being westernised.

So your beefs pertain to those countries that forced the British Empire (England) to give independence to them?:D

No, not at all. It's the governments of those countries who thought that self rule would be some sort of utopia that pisses me off.

As soon as they realised there was a lot of work in it they started holding out their hands for alms...

And haven't stopped since.

One day India might grow up.

My ex- wifes entire family<Engish by the way> Expressed those same sentiments. I always believed it was a bit arrogant on their part.:)

What about those once, great and powerful nations that get into a war and can't finish it without begging a country (yes, you know which ones I am talking about) for help once they figure out they couldn't have won in the first place? :D

It's a common enough attitude in the UK.

And for the most part true.

The British left behind one of the best railway systems in the world. Within 20-25 years it was a joke.

The British left behind a 'fair-for-all' society. Within 5 - 10 years the 'Untouchables' were once again on the streets.

The British left behind an efficient civil service system. Within 30 years it had detiorated into nepotism and unmanageable bureaucracy.

The British left behind many things that slowly crumpled through neglect or the Indian government's innate desire to do nothing as long as their very stratified lives were unaffected.

Then why the persistent vile against the US? Surely you can't be saying that we stick out our hands whenever we're in need. Quite the opposite. I can't remember us asking anybody for any help during any of our various natural (or other) disasters.

Nor anyone offering help, for that matter.

Gosh, hon, I haven't baited you for a long time. I forgot how much fun it was.

Then you've also forgotten that I'm Captain World...

I fight injustice and prick pomposity wherever I find it...

Be it in India, America, Europe or wherever...

I am the voice of the people...

That made me giggle:D
Had to have been the cape thing...

prick pomposity...

Lovely alliteration. Really well done.

But you can't be the "Voice of the People". That's the section of my local newspaper where they ask people on the street questions like "What are your plans for the holiday?", to which one inevitably replies, "Oh, me and the guys are going to pick up a keg of Bud and take the girls to go shoot rats at the dump."

Now THAT'S the voice of the people.

Well I never... Ignoring my wonderfully great post about how the British Empire (once powerful) begs for the powerful USofA to get them out of wars they couldn't handle. What is this world coming to when I cannot even bait a p_p_man.

p_p_, have you forgotten that your stories have not just an ending, but a beginning? A beginning that goes something like this,

We have met the natives, judged them to be savages, kicked the shit out of them, and have taken over their land for crown and country and we will civilize them by gawd, even if we have to kill every last one of the little buggers...

The beginning actually went something like this...

"Fuck me the French have taken over India!"

"No. Really?"

"Well that'll be the end of the natives if we don't do something about it. Pity, I've always liked the little brown buggers. Nice and respectful."

"But we can stop the French takeover. We'll send troops, we'll send gunships and we'll kick the froggies arse all the way back to Paris"

"Right on bro...But what about our little brown friends? They're just beginning to pick up Christianity?"

"Yeah I know. But war's shit. We've gotta expect some collateral damage."

"Uh...why are you talking all funny."

"Dunno Met a guy from the New World last night. Musta picked up the goddamn lingo from him..."

"Oh".

Then why didn't you kick them out of Viet Nam too?

Would have saved us a lot of trouble...

Oh, I forgot, Viet Nam doesn't have one-seventh of the world's gold...

It's the real reason they let America go. They weren't patient enough, but boy, were they kicking themselves in the arse when the gold rush began...

No we let America go because the cotton trade boom began 30 years after that small uprising you had in 1776...

If we had been able to see into the future we would have fought harder.

And not worn red jackets.
