Jase shook his head laughing and following her up and back onto his feet

"Oh no" Jase said shaking his head "no cooking for you! You almost burned down the Falcon last time I attempted to teach you"

He took her hand intertwining their fingers together. He led her over to the kitchen which thankfully was made exactly to his specifications. He wandered in running his hands all over the fresh appliances before turning to her.

"You think its strange this is going to be the place we raise the babies at?" Jase asked folding his arms and leaning against the counter "at least until this all boils down and we can go black planet side"

Vera scowled at his joke about her cooking.

"I just wanted tk make sure you're not the only one doing all the work," she sighed. She watched as he settled against the shiny new counter.

"I was raised om a ship," she said with a shrug "I was going to say that I turned out alright, but there are plenty of people who will disagree." She laughed, looking around and pressing her hand against her abdomen "But our quarters right now aren't suitable. There is a guest suite down the corridor, we can stay there and get our suite reorganised for the babies once we have announced the pregnancy."

"We could do that" Jase said sighing and running his fingers through his hair "but maybe you should move to capital city? I mean dont get me wrong I want you here but were about to head into the front lines on defense are you sure you want to be here for all that?"

Vera's eyebrow arched in surprise at Jase's comment.

"I am guessing you are worried about having me and the babies on board if everything goes south. But Jase, this is my ship, my council, we set up base here for a reason and I cannot leave. I don't want to. Besides, a capital city can have just as much risk, particularly if there is someone unhappy with us there." Vera closed the distance between them and kissed his lips softly as she pressed her body against his, the swell of their babies between them "besides, I have no intention of being somewhere you aren't. We stick together, that is what a family does."

Jase sighed shaking his head "this ships going to be in the thick of things as our base and on the front lines I can protect you as best I can but you and the babies are going to be in trouble no matter what"

He sighed running his hands up and down her back before grabbing her ass and pulling her in "Promise me if I give the sound off to retreat you will leave without me" He said locking eyes with her.

Vera could feel the emotion in his words, and her heart ached at the possibilities of what they would face.

"Jase, I may be good at giving orders but I am terrible at following them... Please don't ask me to make a promise I may not be able to keep." She said, shaking her head.

Jase sighed shaking his head

"Fair enough" he said leaning in kissing her gently before moving away

"come on lets go" He said taking her hand and tugging her "want to get out of here and fly for a while?" He asked her spinning her into his arms and dancing her a slight variation of the tango they danced at the gala.

Vera laughed as Jase swept her into a dance, her previous concern drifting away as their bodies moved together. The idea of going for a fly was tempting.

"I'd love to go for a joy ride with you," She said with a smile. When he next pulled her in close she pressed herself against his groin. "And when we get back you should try out my spa bath with me."

"mmmm sounds like a plan to me!" Jase said leaning in their lips inches from each other before moving.

"Come on!"

They went down the hangar three where the falcon was parked. Jase ran his hands across the hull sighing in pleasure before turning to her.

"You know we can still fly and race to the edge of the universe in this baby" he reminded her threading their fingers together and tugging her onto the launch bay where Samantha was waiting

It had been a month since Vera had been on the falcon and she wasn't prepared for just how much it would feel like a homecoming. She grinned as they climbed on board, the joy on Jase's face only served to further her own.

"Get us out of here captain," Vera said as they walked into the cockpit, "Give the bridge release code 589. That's my joy ride pass."

"oh your joy ride pass huh?" Jase asked sliding into the pilot seat and warming up the engine.

"So you like to fly about to?" He said looking over at her and raising an eyebrow "you never told me you were a pilot" He said as Samantha came in starting up navigations why he keyed in the access code. There was a delay and then the shielding opened revealing space to them.

Vera laughed at Jase's comment.

"I can pilot most crafts just don't, but I've never been one for joyrides until now. Never really had the time or motivation," Vera's eyes sparkled as she looked at him. "If I didn't have such a good memory that code would have been lost to me years ago."

"Well lets get out of here then" Jase said grinning at her and kicking off the engines. The falcon roared to life barreling out of the launch bay and out in to the depths of space.

"Lets taker her over teh ship" Jase said winking at her and angling the joystick. The mother ship rose to greet them and Jase coasted over it and then span onto the underside.

"Cant believe this is our home now" Jase murmured leaning back to look at it "shes a grand old beast though at least once we give her some more teeth"

Vera's eyes appraised the mothership, in awe as always at the sheer size of her.

"If you ask the fleet commander he'd say she had teeth enough. I think your definition of teeth is more like giant fangs dripping with poison," Vera laughed sitting back in her seat and rubbing her belly.

"Tell me about your parents Jase... I wish I could have met them."

"The fleet commander bah" Jase siad shaking his head "that idiot would have us all march into battle with sticks and stones if it meant his budget would be intact"

He turned raising an eyebrow "my parents?" He said before sighing.

"Samantha knows well knew them better than I did" Jase said softly looking down "I cant remember much before Korlift PTSD I guess? I had to rely on her to tell me slash show me videos" He said

"I can tell you about them," Sam said appearing in the cockpit, standing between their chairs. She reached out, stroking Jase's cheek affectionately, obviously back in hardlight form

"They'd be terribly proud of Jase now, even being a PEACe General. They would be happy knowing that he is so forgiving and clever. The threat you guys are facing.. You two are the best people to be facing it. They would probably approve of you too Vera," Sam's eyes sold to Vera, an ironic smile tugging at her lips, "once they got to know you of course. And they would be stupidly excited about the babies. Your mum Jase, she would not be able to wait to hold them, her grandchildren. Your dad would be excited about teaching them everything he knew, he would already be researching how best to teach babies science." Sam laughed, shaking her head as her eyes swum with emotion.

"Jase is more like his mother than his father, though I can see both of them in him."

Jase sighed leaning back and listening

"From what I remember my parents both loved me more than I think I even know" Jase remarked looking out at the night sky "I remember bits and pieces but after we got ot Korlift every thing changed the first time they ever disobeyed was the last time at least after they had to watch what the warden did to me"

"There were happy times even in Korlift as well" Jase remarked looking over "we formed a family all of us prisoners it made it easier plus my mom and dad were always working so they always had to have some one to baby sit me I had some good times there better than I care to admit at least"

Vera smiled sadly as Jase spoke, pleased that he had found some comfort in that terrible place. Though the knowledge that he would have lost even his adopted family as well was heartbreaking. He had such a quiet strength and fortitude about him, Vera's eyes settled on him and she realised in that moment just how lucky she was to have him.

"How did you get out?" She asked, voice quiet and tentative, letting him know that she would understand if he didn't answer.

Jase frowned muling over her question

"to this day im not sure I know fully what happened" Jase said "I know bits and pieces that my parents used Samantha to sabotage the security that they enticed a revolt to try and get me out"

"But truthfully I was in such shock that night I cant recall I remember bits and pieces running blood every where Samantha urging me to run but my next real memory is waking up aboard the Falcon with Samantha telling me we had escaped" He said nodding at her "after that we were on my own"

Vera listened to Jase speak, hearing the pain in his voice, it pulled at her heartstrings. Perhaps it was for the best that he remembered so little.

"Well, you don't need to be alone any more," Vera said, smiling over at him with warmth and promise in her eyes. "And I suspect we will soon learn just how deep a parents love can run." She said, hands covering the swelling of their babies protectively.

"Well I can tell you one thing there is no way our babies will have to live without at least one of their parents" Jase said turning to her

"Which is why you will promise me you will get on an escape pod without me if the time comes" Jase told her locking eyes with her "you know my past please I beg of you for me"

Vera took a deep, shuddering breath at Jase's words. The emotion behind them, the unspoken sadness in his eyes. She nodded almost imperceptibly, unable to verbalise anything that might jinx them, that might make the situation he suggested turn tk reality.

"Well, we will just need to make sure we are never in that situation," her voice as stern, her lips set. They had fought terrible odds before, they could get through this too.

"I understand you dont want to think about it" Jase said finally taking her hand angling the ship back to the mothership.

"But were going to be parents now which means thinking about and putting them first" Jase said looking over at her.

"I hate to think about it either but we have to put them before us even if it means leaving hte other"

"I know, I know," Vera sighed, sitting back in her seat and sighing. "It's just... I've never been as close to anyone as I have been to you. I will do what is necessary to protect our babies when the time comes but... I don't like thinking about it. You know it is strange, that I could have had that whole ship full of people around me yet been so lonely." Vera watched as the mothership came back into view.

"Before you no matter where I was I felt alone in the universe" Jase said piloting the ship back in and docking it "And I know this is hard" He told her getting up and taking her hand.

"But we got to do this" I know its tough and it sucks but were parents and leaders now" He said kissing her hand "but im going to do every thing possible NOT to be in that situation" He said nodding at her "and I trust you to do the same"
