The newest Star Trek with Chris Pine as Kirk was on FX last night. Typically I am a traditionalist; I do not like remakes or sequels, and almost always think the original is the best. I mean, seriously, Piccard was a British pansy and do not even get me started on the others.

But I must admit, I believe this was the best movie of all. From the casting, to the acting, to the plot, everything was extremely well done. The way they effectively changed the whole timeline, thus putting in to doubt the whole star trek history as we know it was brilliant. It also sets them up for all new movies that will not be held to the constraints of the past. I am very much looking forward to the new one next year.

Also if you are a physics geek as well as a Star Trek fan I suggest reading The Physics of Star Trek by Krauss that contains a forward by Hawking…Not as informative s Hawking’s books but still a great read.
So what sequel or remake do you think was better than the originals?

It was ok but it barely had anything to do with star trek. It was just generic sci fi action with pretty people.

I totally agree. I was a huge fan of the original series and didn't even want to see this remake because I couldn't imagine that it would live up to the original. I was shocked that they did such a good job with it. In particular, the casting was superb.

and I bet he can not even use the correct to/too/ or two........

my favorite past time on lit is totally butchering grammar to watch the little menial pissants writhe in indignation at our ignorance. i wonder if those superior grammar skills gets them raises at their cashier job.

I don't like they blew up Vulcan, why not Ferenginar instead.

I doubt it, but it does make them feel better about themselves. Kind of like when they level up on their favorite online fantasy game....

I siagree other than Star Tek the Motion Picture this was the worst movie.

Other than the woman who played Uhura whose character got an upgrade. Inferior in every way.

William Shatner is Kirk, Lenord Nimoy is Spock its like seeeing anyone else do Henry 5 after Oliver and Brangah.

Come on, that was perfect casting to play the younger originals. Hell I even liked the new young bones better. I wonder how they will explain Kirks speech impediment in the future

I wasn't much of a fan when the show was on TV, nor am I much of a Shatner fan. But that movie ws cool! Young Bones and Scottie hit the mark in my mind. Changing the timeline & future/past does open up possibilities for anymore early stories to be told. Loved the whole thing!

Green girls in bra & panties? I may just have to rethink the whole trekkie thing...

Yeah, gotta love the green girl. Too bad she was offed over Vulcan :(

I agree the movie was better than I expected....especialy after the hatchet job the writers/producers did with the other Star Trek movies with the original cast.

released in 2009, and I just saw it, not sure what took so long. I thought it was good, but limited. JJ Abrams does good work....

Scott Bakula will be forever known as the man that single handedly killed Star Trek, Beagles in Space.

i grew up watching the original star trek series on tv - and there was always something about spock that ... fascinated me. kirk, not at all. i like how this film gave kirk a less cheesy look and character, built on uhura's sex appeal, but most of all was absolutely delighted with the casting and performance of zach quinto as spock! ok, his nose is broader, but damn - his eyes, and the way he moved, almost everything was spot-on spock. i didn't like the weapons so much - they seemed a bit old-fashioned (reminded me of gatling guns or something!), but then i guess the old trekkies of my past and this film's future had improved hardware in that timeframe.

and you lay off picard, weirdo
