Timeline - 2379.
The Federation's just left a devastating two year conflict with The Dominion. The U.S.S. Exeter-D, a Pioneer-Class starship, {Intrepid-Class upgrade,} has been assigned to a cautious 2 year stint exploring the frontier and tracking/analyzing The Borg Collective's movements. The Alpha Quadrant Alliance also require them to track experienced, genetically-modified Trill symbiotes that have displayed antagonistic aspirations and even attempted to conquer Earth and Starfleet from within, using the Admiralty as the perfect "Trojan Horse", hiding in plain sight.
These are the off duty adventures of an isolated crew. A tired, but inventive crew.
