To S. Maiden
Gor is a planet directly opposite the sun from Earth in the same orbit so has never been discovered.
Priest Kings are insectile 'Rulers' of the planet and generally never seen. However, their influence has keep the planet in a middle ages stage of advancement.
No one ages due to a serum that they've given the healers, a nice benefit having age treated as a disease. *G*
Free Women and slaves comprise the two levels of female society.
Men can be in any caste or guild from craftsmen, to merchants, to warriors, etc. There are even professional "Game" players, their term for a chess like game and professional Tarn Riders who race them for a living.
The society is richly sprinkled with Nomads, Pirates, Gorean Barbarians, a black society who live in the Southern jungles, etc, etc and I believe lil_golden would be agreeable to something 'made up' too.
I suggested to her No Gorean language in general to make it easier on us all and that in general the flora and fauna be Earth's with the exception of the Tarns, gigantic riding eagles.
You'd do wonderfully. In fact if you chose to be a charcter who's been captured on Earth and transported to Gor your lack of knowledge would fit right into the character.
BTW, 'they' don't know how that's done, but it is for both male and females with the females being the majority of those captured.
Posts from newly captured and transported 'barbars' *g* would be in italics so show it's not "Gorean" and they wouldn't be able to comprehend what was being said until they'd been 'taught' the language. If I wished you, for example, to come along with me someplace I'd use the words and then drag you along so you'd realize what I meant. It could be short-cut and the captured could learn Gorean quickly. After all it's total immersion for them and life and death to learn.
As for a character dying, I meant the combat for use only in character to character combat. Otherwise, if PC to NPC combat descriptions of actions would do nicely.
Your thoughts?
