About five miles from our lake home, there was a famous Kansas sign.

If you cross this pasture, you must do it in 9 seconds because the bull can do it in 10.

While walking with hounds, I crossed a fence into a pasture to act as cattle guard (prevent cattle from charging hounds or hounds from chasing cattle) and the cattle turned out to be a ton and a half of giant, ugly, heavily horned and determinedly angry bull. His hooves were sledgehammers, his gait a locomotive, his nostrils caverns and his snort was thunder. I ran.

I can cover the ground in 9 seconds and jump a 4 foot fence as easily as any horse.

The hounds chose not to chase this animal.
