This idea has been in my head for a while but I haven't been able to sit down and write it out.

It involves a recently turned 18 high school senior. Her boyfriend or the guy she is interested in is at his first year in college. She meets a 70 + year old man and against her will she falls for him.

1. She works at a mall and as they are opening up she see's him with other seniors walking around the mall.

2. She is a jogger and with warmer weather, shorts and tank tops come out. She passes the old man several times and they say hi/bye. One day it rains, since they are near his house, they rush to his front porch and sit and talk.

3. She is walking her dog and he stops in front of his yard. He comes out ready to yell and see's her pull out a bag and scoop it up. He thanks her and they talk then yadda yadda yadda.

4. I have another similar idea for a newlywed. The husband works and the older man is a good chef and always has good smells coming from his apartment. They start talking and he offers to teach her how to cook in several ways.

The rest of the story I have pretty much mapped out. Just trying to think of an interesting way to meet.

Any other ideas or comments would be appreciated.

So there's hope for a 70 year old man and an 18 year old girl? Be still my foolish 61 year old heart. :D

But seriously, 2 and 4 sound like the best possibilities. 1 doesn't leave a really good reason for the meeting and 3 starts out too confrontational to expect to become romantic. Besides, standing there with pooper scooper in hand and a bag of dog poop and a yapping dog doesn't lend itself well to "Care to join me for a cup of coffee?".

As I approach 50, for some reason this type of story becomes more appealing.

I agree 2 and 4 would probably be the most 'realistic' scene, but maybe because it would be a little tougher I'm drawn to # 3. I'll play around with the story and see what comes of it.

Thanks

I would put "plausability" as a distant second to "entertaining" when crafting a story. "Harold and Maude" was a similar story, very implausible, but vastly entertaining.
