Spreader Bar Help

I've been finding an interest in spreader bars myself lately. I've never had one on before, but the idea has deffinitly perked my interest.

Here's my favorite site to buy from: http://www.extremerestraints.com/bondage-gear_10/spreader-bars_228/

I've been eyeing the top two.

I think some one once mentioned making one with dowlrods and eye screws. This is what I was originally thinking about starting out with. would be a fairly cheap way to try it out.

As for travel, I have no clue....

Hope I've helped a little.

I don't own one myself, but it seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to make one. From what I've seen, BDSM stores will charge you at least a hundred bucks for one. Or you could go to a hardware store and buy supplies to build yourself one for around 10 bucks.

There are many varieties from what I have seen, though the basic principle is the same. I would suggest trying to make your own, at least to begin, so money is not outlaid on something you do not know if you will continue to use. You can make them out of a piece of doweling used for hanging curtains, with eye hooks or similar to fasten to cuffs or 2 pieces of pipe which can collapse into each other for travel and then be slid out to the desired length using bolts through predrilled holes to fix the extended length. Have fun. :D

I've been wanting a spreader bar forever, and it just dawned on me a couple of days ago that I have the perfect one already. I have one of those backseat clothes rods in my car that I never use. The length of the thing is adjustable, and there are rings on both ends to hang it with. All I need now are two snaps to slide on the rings so I can attach the bar to my ankle cuffs, and I'm set. :)

Innerslut yes you can make a spreader bar. The question is what do you want to have it made of?? Sir has wood spreader bars for most things but he also has 2 metal ones that are a bit longer. The wood ones are say 18 inches in length.

This spreader bar is what we use during play. It has 3 eyebolts. Two for the feet and one for the neck to bend you over a bit.

my Master made a couple just like that... He bought all the needed materials at <strike>DOM</strike> Home Depot.
Not great for travel though... Although i have read that some use an adjustable shower rod in place of the dowel, in my opinion, it's a bit lengthy. i wouldn't want to be lugging the thing through an airport.

Outside of the spreader bar as a solution: my Master has metal cuffs sans any padding. i learned very early on that once i am in those i stay very very still... as much as possible. Whether it is His intention, any time He has used them to restrain me, they have served as 'no squirm no wiggle' training devices..... i swear. i don't recommend them for travel. i don't know that it is legal to enter an airport with metal cuffs in now, post 9-11. i'm leaning toward a guess of 'NOT'.

I have one which I made with a dowel rod and eye screws. I went to ACE hardware and had them show me how to make it and they even cut it to the right length. I was instructed by Sir to stand there with my legs spread and say "About this long." Get a thick one and sand the edges to prevent cuts of course, but then splinters might be another turn-on for some.
Be well.

I have seen spreader bars that are very short 6-8cms in length.

They were hand made and were metal (iron, I think). They had eyelets at the end to secure them to ankle cuffs, ropes or chains.

The idea of the very small ones was to control walking and movement.

I would love to have a whole selection of things like this which could be used at various times.

The spreader bar we currently have is from a local sex shop. It is a very simple metal bar with cuffs at each end. The links between the cuffs and the bar do have some movement in them which is not perfect. It would be better if the linkage was solid, to restrict the bar from moving.

I have also seen an upright metal bar with two metal circles at the bottom, two in the middle and one at the top. I have forgotten what it was called, but the idea is to fasten the pyl by their ankles, wrists and neck. The length of the bar means the pyl is slightly bent over. I did try it, as it was made for a taller person I found it very comfortable which was not the idea of it all lol

Interesting piece though

they have a rather cheaply made spreader nside the "homemade toys" sthread in this forum, ((knew trying to keep teh thread alive would come in hadny some day :D))

My metal handcuffs went though fine in My checked baggage, as did My knife.

any questions on what you can take on a plane go to www.tsa.gov for the US, I am sorry I don't know how to find it for nay international guidelines.

One alternative you could try as well is a simple dow rod that is rounded about 2 inches in diameter and some rope.

The technique is to tie up your hands or wrists seperately with some tail left over to be used later. While laying on your back spread your legs then slide the bar up behind your knees. Then firmly but gently have him push the bar towards you effectively bring your knees upwards towards you.

You then reach out and take hold of the bar by placing your hands on the "inside" of your knees. He then takes the tails from each wrist and secures your hands and wrists to the rod.

Effectively what this does is it uses your own body to prevent you from being able to close your legs as your arms act as natural barriers.

If he uses a double Lark's hitch from the under-side the ends should hang out and upwards, you then drape them over the leg and Lark Head and secure with any type of holding knot on the otherside. Its ok to leave it a bit loose when you drape it over the thigh as its only job is to keep you from pushing down on the rod away from your knees or trying to lift your knees away from the rod. Basically just to trap your legs.

This should allow you to wiggle all you like but your legs won't close and the rope shouldn't loosen if your wrists are tied right.

For two good wrist/hand ties I recommend trying the two I designed in my "building blocks" thread from the cafe. Please note the instructions and cautions with both.

you may not be able to travel easy with a spreader bar, but using this method, you can use just about anything with a little bit of rope and rope is easier to take with when you travel.

Be safe, enjoy.

PS: For this particular tie I favor the wrist-cuff ( the first link) because it allows for a smoother lay of the wrist when sinched down onto the dowel and it also has the quick escape in case you need to get free quickly for some reason. It also allows fo rhte hands to be free or open to grab onto the dowel naturally.

Seems like everyone has answered your question completely. I can only say the best investment you can make is The Better Built Bondage Book It has instructions on building all the toys you could ever want.

You can get it on Amazon and it is well worth the cost.

Enjoy!

Great and informative post.

I kept wondering if using the concept of a body harness upon the legs of the submissive, and then using the harness created as a way to hold her legs down during a scene and keeping them separated.
