as a teenager growing up my sporting hero was
muhammad ali as well as his skills in the ring he was
and still is
a great ambassador for the people .
who and for what reason is your sporting great?

all mine are footballers.... probably Tony Adams... the Arsenal captain and ex-england captain. Fantastic player, a real leader.... dominant, aggressive, fair....

In the 80s he had a massive alcohol addiction. Big public rehabilitation... and he's now just as good as he ever was. What England would give to have him 10 years younger as we go into the World Cup... *sigh*

it seemed to be a bit of a problem in the arsenal camp at the time
didnt his team mate paul merson fight alcholismat the same time?

it was a bit of a problem in england at the time....

Merson was addicted to drink and drugs... he introduced Adams to his first AA meeting

One of my favorite sporting people is Steve Carlton. I grew up watching him pitch for the Phillies and I thought he was one of the best. I know there are many who came after him that are probably better, but he will always stand out in my mind.

When you went to a game or watched a game on television when he was pitching...it was usually over pretty quickly. He didn't stand around on the plate and play games...he just pitched and got the job done.

I can remember feeling so sad the way his career had to end with those bad years, but he'll always be a favorite with me.
