Hi guys, Kristy here again. I raised the idea of a pulp-style digital magazine in this thread. Here's an illustration showing how it might look if we decided to put it together:

I was thinking we could publish it here on Lit and also make it available as a CBR download. It could have a color cover and (at least) four stories with black and white illustrations inside. The stories might represent different genres of the pulp era - weird fantasy, space opera, western, detective mystery, masked adventurer and just plain "spicy" etc. If you're seriously interested in contributing stories and/or artwork, feel free to leave a message on this thread or drop me a PM outlining your ideas. Please note that I'm not aiming for professional quality results here, I just think this might be a fun project to work on. All opinions and feedback will be both welcome and appreciated. Anyway, bye bye for now. :):):)

I already voiced my interest for this in the last thread, so I'm game to contribute something. Not sure what yet, have to think on it, but leaning towards a 'weird' fantasy setting, 1920's -30's, Call of Cthulhu theme, like in the old RPG based off H.P. Lovecraft's writing. Capture, sacrifice and rescue of a damsel in distress.
BTW- I can't see whatever art work you posted.

This looks great! I would love to read (and write for) a magazine like this. I'll pm some ideas for you soon.

I'm currently working the plot and outline for a late 20's 30's era erotic horror, capture/ rescue theme. Should be interesting: sacrificial alter, evil cultists, scantily clad damsel in distress, maybe a vile and disgusting orgy (we all hate those things, right?,) and a giant, slobbering monster that can’t wait to get is…uhm, greasy tentacles on our helpless female, as she lays chained to the alter. ;)
And yes, it is going to have a general NC theme, with lots of clothes ripping and 'petting' as it was called back then. Hey, her virginity has to be intact for the monster, but not her dignity, right?
Maybe our hero and his band of misfit friends will save her in time? Guess you'll have to wait to find out.

I love the concept

but I have a few questions. Is this going to be sold or a free download? Will these stories be exclusive or otherwise available on Lit.? Should the stories be toned down a bit to reflect the period, or can you use full-blown porn?

I am working on a noire-ish detective story that I could contribute for the second issue, if you go by quarters. With my current schedule, there is no way I can finish it by the time you publish the first issue. It is slated to be the first in a series of stories that will follow my current "Desperate Measures" series, and I was planning to enter it in the Lit. Holiday contest. (It was supposed to be entered in last year's contest, but I didn't finish it in time).

Your mock-up is incredible. You got me excited about this project.

Yep, a great game, and the perfect setting or a 'dark' story in this genera. Just waiting to hear back form the OP on a few details before I start writing.

I've written tons of CofC stories over the years - the problem is that none of them contain any sex! Well, that's if you don't count the Shoggoths, or the Great Race of Yith, or the Mi-Go, or the Elder Things...

I'll get my coat now...lol

You should really consider getting involved in this project. We need crerative degenerates to make this thing work. :D

Creative Degenerates? Isn't that what you are Master? **ducks** :D
(I get the sneaking suspicion you will read this, laugh and then think of something purely evil to do to me...)

Bring it on! ;):D

Well, speaking for myself, I'm just doing this for fun; I'm a big fan of the pulps and always wished I could have written and drawn for them. This way, I can fulfill that dream, working with a group of talented authors to create an online magazine. I don't see it as a commercial venture, I just think it would be an interesting spin on the more conventional collaborative project.

Will these stories be exclusive or otherwise available on Lit.?

As mentioned above, we can post the final result here on Lit as a standard collab, and make the digital "magazine" available as a CBR download from any free storage site. For my part, everything I contribute will be completely free of charge.

I'm also hoping everyone involved will agree to releasing the digital magazine under CC-BY-SA 3.0, allowing other people to reproduce the material without author approval (I'm also a big fan of Wikipedia :):) )

Should the stories be toned down a bit to reflect the period, or can you use full-blown porn?

A few people have asked the same question, and I've given it a lot of thought. Personally, I'd like to satisfy everyone as much as possible in this regard. Some - like myself - would like to stay as true to the orginal source material as possible; while others would prefer to take a "hardcore" approach to the subject matter. My solution would be to produce two versions, one with explicit sexual content and another featuring the "spicy" (softcore) imagery favored by the pulps. I'll leave it completely up to the writers which way they wish to go - hard, soft, or both.

Oh, don't take the "published quarterly" tag seriously, I only added that to make the mockup look more authentic. We don't have any real deadlines, and we can afford to wait until everyone's submissions are finished. It's an ongoing project, so we have nothing but time on our hands right now.

I'll be looking forward to more news on your noire detective piece, feel free to post an outline here (or via PM) if you find the time. :):):)

This is probably the only part that bothers me to a degree.

For starters if anyone can reproduce it, then the author if they decide to take the story, revise and expand it and submit it to an actual publisher, might run into some problems. Potentially because a different version of the story is out there floating around that may or may not have been altered by someone else, see below.

Also, it opens up the author to having their story stolen - and what I mean by this is someone else taking it, potentially reworking it and calling it their own with no credit to the original author. This is of course what bothers me the most as I know how much work goes into writing a story, and I sadly know there are a lot of really dishonest people out there. While feasibly this situation could happen with any published written work, having it open to free/no permission required reproduction increases that risk considerably.

I don't plan on submitting a story myself as I don't have the time to sit down and write one, however I don't like seeing the hard work of others end up stolen either. For example - Master is a published author. If he puts a story in this little pulp book, and someone then downloads the pulp book, copies his story into a word processor and then rewrites it and submits it for publishing elsewhere, then he's had his story stolen.

I think the book is a great idea, I just feel that having it available to be copied without any kind of permission runs some risk.

Free downloads are fine, but maybe there should be something these folks have to agree too before the download commences such as "I agree not to use the whole or any part of this book in a manner inconsistent with it's intended use and agree that the stories held within are the intellectual property of their authors. Any removal or copying of a story from this book for any reason requires the permission of the author." That could be reworded a bit better, but you get the idea.

Well, no one is actually required to contribute work under CC-BY-SA, it's just one of the options we'll have available in the magazine. Authors who don't wish to publish under a free licence will have a standard copyright notice attached to their story. :):):)

I'm with GrimsPet here, a simple "allow everything" policy is an invitation for IP trolls. But Creative Commons do have a free license that would (theoretically) protect from plain thievery. by-nc-nd also prohibits modification of the work but still allows free distribution of the work as a whole. I believe that, without such a protection clause, a lot of noteworthy writers here will be quite hesitant to contribute.

As for me, as long as we as the writers are protect at least somewhat, I'll be happy. In all honesty, there's nothing stopping a person from taking any idea they see on LE, twisting it slightly and calling it there own. I just think this is a cool idea in general, so I plan on contributing.
About half done with Part one of my story contribution. It's kind of an erotic horror, suspense, abduction/ rescue theme taking place in Boston in 1931. Going with the Cthulhu/ cult based mythos as well. Turning out pretty well thus far, and I hope everyone enjoys the finished product. Can't wait to see the illustrations that KristyLeigh comes up with for it. :D
