Spewing Venom ... read a different category

As a new author to Literotica, I am appreciative of most of the feedback received about my

stories. What is puzzling, however, is some of the vitriolic responses to the stories.

If I submit a story in the 'loving wives' category, I am somewhat amazed that some readers will

complain about the husband permitting exhibitionism or more from his partner or wife. Given

that the bulk of the stories have that general theme, in fact the 2004 award winner, why would

someone even bother to read this category and further comment on something dissagreeable to them?

I don't eat liver, so I don't look for it or buy it and I certainly don't comment on it.

I've compared notes with some other authors who have put stories in about cuckholders and gotten

spiteful, vicious responses as well. That is not my favorite gendre, yet I espouse no

bitterness toward the author of that genre. My aim is to entertain. My aim is to practice

writing skills. My aim is to get feedback on whether those skills are coming along and are entertaining readers.

There are many choices on the WWW. I wish that people would choose to follow the things that

they like and that entertain them, rather than utter attacks on those who think differently.

Is this what other authors have experienced ?

Well first off, what do you expect? It's not a reflection of your writing capabilities but of their ignorance. If I think someone sucks and they haven't come right out and invited negative comments then I make none. I think most here do the same.

But also, I write for my own pleasure. If someone doesn't like what I write, and I've gotten a few of those very negative responses, well, it's just too bad. I think you have to go into this with that sort of an attitude. You do it for yourself first and if someone else gets pleasure from it as well, great, otherwise, who cares?

I've never written for the Loving Wives category, but I can tell you that it is one of the hardest categories to please the readers. In fact, I think it is fairly common to get really nasty comments on just about anything in that category. Don't take it personally and don't give up writing!

Hi,
I R.V.C.ed your story "Sharing the Shauna" and enjoyed it. I agreed that those 'trolls' should read another category, or go play scrabble or something, haha.
I have had that happen to me and all the really negative, non-contructive comments were Anonymous, 'trolls'. It's going to happen as long as you have voting and public comments. It goes with the territory, so don't let it affect you. Keep writing what you like. Take care,

Hey,

I got an anonymous troll today. He or she said that I sounded awful. I agree that if you can't say anything nice... just leave it alone and find something that you can say something nice about. They must realllllly be bored! When I read a story I don't like...can't finish it, I just leave it alone. The other feedbacks make me feel better afterwards anyway. These trolls are like keying a beautiful car that you can't have.

That's not a typical troll. It may not even be a troll, just somebody expressing an opinion. Most trolls just toss their one-bombs, not even leaving an anonymous comment.

Here are two comments I received just today"

1.

Comments:

I HATE stories that end with "To be continued" or in some other way indicate, at the end, that this is only the first chapter without informting the readers of this important fact BEFORE the open the fucking thing. I hate it so much that, after years of putting up with this shit, I decided that all such stories get an automatic rating of one (1).

Since it is obvious that you don't give a fuck about the readers nor your own story, there is no reason for you to be pissed about this.

2.

Comments:

Hot! Hot! Hot! Great story. Can't wait to find out what happens next.

Some you please and some you don't. Oh well.

The first guy does have a certain point but readers should be able to see that a story is continued from the name. If it says "Hot Sex, Chapter 1", they must realize there will be a "Hot Sex, chapter 2" and it will come along later.

Yes we all have, unfortunately. You are indeed preaching to the choir.

Whenever a reader's IQ matches their shoe size I always try to take a step back from their comments and not take it too personally. I had someone complain once about my description of a male character as "tall". (I'm tall, my husband is tall, that is my personal experience. Apparently the reader has issues with his own height. . . )

People who read stories in a category they dislike just so they can complain about it are truly in need of counseling. (Anger issues, anyone? Too much time on their hands?)

At any rate, most trolls, as Box said, will drop the "1" bomb and leave without commenting. Jerks.

On the other hand, if I am reading a story that is poorly written I will give it a low score. I don't judge the category, just the quality of the work. If the story has more typos than correctly spelled words, for example, or if it consistently uses the phrase, "I'm cummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggg" which uses up half the words in the story it needs a "1". It is begging for it.

If the substandard work on this site is not rated accordingly, how can the 5's be worth anything?

Hang in there - writers have more staying power than trolls. :rose:

You know, in considering that guy's post where he laid in to me I think there's a second way to take it. He must have liked the story and really wanted the ending to have written so strongly. I actually have submitted the 2nd part, it just hasn't been approved yet.
