In America do you have the job of brickie's labourer, or is it bricky's laborer. I can't find it in any of my dictionaries or in the one online but suspect it is my deficiency rather than that of the dictionaries. I keep getting it red underlined when I use it and it's very frustrating. I'd be most grateful for help.

In America we have masons, and their specialties: Brick Mason, Stone Mason, and Block Mason. Their apprentices are laborers.

That would explain why I couldn't find it. As far as I know we only have stone masons and brick layers. Stone masons aren't common now. They are expected to carve the stone as well as lay it. Thank you so much- You're very helpful.

I've heard both Brick Mason and Bricklayer in the 'States. But the helpers are laborers and can be just helpers, or apprentices depending on the state's union laws and customs. I think. I've only lived in seven states.

that's because they carried a hod.

Twenty years in the trade, ask if you need anything info wise on this trade I probably know it...

Our stone masons mostly just set and go now. the stones are pre-cut at a stone yard quarry to a set of blue prints. Then we have to put together the jigsaw puzzle.

pay scale (down here anyway) runs

laborer about 10-14 an hour

apprentice 14-17

mason 18 - 20

foreman 20 - 25+

I hired on at $5.00 an hour in 87

Thank you so much. It is often surprising how our language use differs. Often I don't realise and this yime I'm fortunate I did.
